I hope there will be a pic or two of the event longhuntr74 for posting to the forum or all this feeling of shame will have been a wasted thing. Hope you have a great day for the parade

See page 2...
John (WVHighlander),
See page 2 for info on the parade. Kent (WalkerK) posted a link to the event. It's in Redwood City (just north of San Jose). Step off time is 10am as I recall...though I have to be there bright and early, of course.
Downunder...since I've enjoyed your pics of sporrans, jackets, and doublets so much over the past couple of months, I'll do my very best to get some pictures and share them here...just for you!! Of course, I'll have to rely on other photographers!

White hose and spats? Seems like a white leg overkill!
But since it’s uniform, you’d better wear ’em.
And I would second your idea of encouraging the guys to wear diced hose tops.
Enjoy the parade!

Mike

...what's wrong with white hose? I dig 'em.

Where did the general idea of white hose come from, if they're so unpopular? I admit, I have worn them, but did so because of their "neutral" appearance and reduced cost... and I think our country dance leader asked all of the men to wear them for uniformity's sake.

100% agree, Mike. It's a veterans organization, not a pipe band, so we have a common shirt and hat, but not common kilts, etc. We are free to wear a sporran and kilt of our choosing (either clan, military service, or other). I will be wearing my Tewksbury US Army kilt. I know other guys in the post have Navy (Edzell?) or Leatherneck tartan kilts. In pics from years past, they were wearing spats, but there was a variety of hose...from diced to solid colored, white, etc. I definitely think that the darker colors (either solid or diced) look better over white spats, but with mismatch kilts and in an effort to standardize hose for a more polished look, I guess the decision was made to go with a color that they assume everybody will have.

I think there is something there if everyone wears their "regimental" tartan, but otherwise has the same uniform. Then you could see the various services--provided you knew how to recognize each--while still recognizing the shared commonality of the group.
I would, however, continue to work the group to change the hose to something a bit more pleasant to the eye.

I'm thinking of making sock puppets out of my white hose.
