Yup, bought more kilts than pants in the last two years! I really enjoy the kilt. Comfortable? Yes! Fun? Yes! Sharp-looking? You bet! But, I dislike sitting in them. Too much "pleat management"... especially if I don't want creases and wrinkles. Oh I know there's all manner of sweeping techniques, but as someone said on this forum some time ago, kilts are better for standing. So, I don't ever plan to wear the kilt everyday. I don't care. I'd rather be "kiltmedextrous" which means I can wear them or not, wear pants or not, and just wear what I want.

Context is key for me in regards to wearing Highland dress. When I deem it appropriate to the occassion, than I'll wear the kilt (16 ounce, 8 yarder). If I could get away with wearing the kilt all of the time, I most certainly would, but sometimes, it's just too hard to pass up a soft pair of broken-in chinos, Sperry top-siders, and a comfortable Oxford, button-down shirt!
Cheers,

Cheers,
you echo my sentiments, it would be great to wear the kilt all the time but shorts and pants are much more manageable.
Last week after the Scottish Pipe Band Championship we stayed at an hotel in Arrochar at the top of Loch Lomond.
At 1.45am the fire alarm went off and frightened the life out of me and I think every other hotel resident, thankfully it was a false alarm but for a few moments I said if this is a fire then I've got to get out of the hotel pronto, but how quick can you dress when you are wearing the kilt? Its a thought!

You raise an excellent point, Jimmy! Although, I would argue that strapping on a kilt doesn't really take any more time than buttoning a pair of trousers (well, okay, maybe 5 more seconds). And actually, it would be easier to put on a kilt in certain cases when you're rushed and panicked, rather than trying to get your legs into your trousers.
Of course, it's different if you're stopping to put on kilt belt, sporran, hose, garters/flashes, sgian dubh, tie, waistcoat, bonnet, and all the other stuff. That's the part that takes a lot longer than trousers. But in the scenario of a fire, just wrapping the kilt around you and buckling it isn't really any more time consuming than getting your trousers on.
And besides, nobody would lament losing a pair of trousers in a hotel fire, but if you left your kilt in the room, you'd be sorry!
