Love wearing the Kilt but not all the time

I enjoyed wearing the kilt over 4 days from last Friday to Monday morning. We had started out for the Scottish Pipe Band Championship last Friday night by being kilted at our usual watering hole in the west end of Glasgow, then on Saturday in Dumbarton and 2 nights in Arrochar at the top of Loch Lomond.
Its great to get the opportunity for extended wearing of the kilt, its just a joy to wear almost every day but its also good to have the option of alternative wear like shorts in the past couple of days which has seen the temperature rise for the first time in several weeks.
Pants do not offer the same thrill that the kilt gives and the freedom that the kilt offers but I suppose we kilt wearers are just like women in the way that we want the option of a different mode of dress when it suits us

Kilts should be an article in every man's wardrobe. I too enjoy wearing them but I do have other options.

Yes winter time when it is blustery windy and cold I do have my hunting and military breeks to wear with country/shooting socks. Im even converting three pair of pants, two are corduroy, into breeks for winter. Summer may find me in my garden in a sarong because they are very comfortable, cool and keep the mosquitoes from my legs. I do have a pair of jeans and Dockers if really needed, such as wearing my cowboy boots. For me though most the time Ill be in my kilts.

I kilt every opportunity I can throughout the winter and it can be refreshing to take the socks off and put on a pair of pants in the summer. Equally, after a whole summer without socks my feet kind of like it when covering season comes back around.

I'm wearing a kilt more often, even in the Republic of Ireland , and usually wear one at weekends and on holidays and in all seasons (there is not a huge difference in them in Ireland!). I don't hold with the "special occasion only" view of kilt wearing and think it is nearly always appropriate wear, except where an expensive and good quality piece of bespoke tailoring is in peril or where something less conspicuous would be more considerate to the needs of others.
I've bought four kilts in the past year and this probably exceeds the number of trousers I've purchased and a moratorium is indicated.
I have 10 days in Scotland coming up in June and can't wait for some awe inspiring landscapes and some pints of Deuchars and Belhaven Best.

I'm probably like you wearing the kilt more often, especially now the summer is here with events like highland games and various social gatherings. I would say that I prefer wearing the kilt to trousers but as I said earlier its good that we can alternate our mode of dress.

I am, I think, pretty unusual in that I have worn the kilt regularly for most of my life and swapping kilt for trousers has never been a problem. Sadly these days I tend not to wear the kilt as often, particularly at tourist time, as I used to and trousers allow for more speedy travel, due to the onset of a stage in my life where standing up and passing the time of day and discussing the finer points of kilt attire with a covey of pretty visitors is rather inconvenient and a chair has rather more attraction. DAMMIT!

    I always tell people:

Wear what is appropriate for the activity in which you are engaged.

Welding, swimming, skydiving, changing the oil on a car, rock climbing - and many others, do not lend themselves easily to kilt wearing. If you have to wear specialist clothing to do an activity, then the kilt is probably not the first choice of garment. There is a very good reason why the kilted regiments stopped going into battle kilted.

    Regards

    Chas

It's all about personal choice and freedom. I'm sure most of us have heard of someone asking "Why would anyone ever want to wear a kilt?" Well, I think it's just as bad to ask "Why would anyone ever want to wer trousers?" and, sometimes, some people on the forum assume this attitude.

Wear what you want, when you want. It's your choice.

This. I love wearing the kilt, but it just isn't appropriate for everything. Sometimes trousers really are the best option. Either due to safety/protection or social convention.

I decided to put my least favourite kilt, an el-cheapo acrylic kilt, to use as my casual 'laying about the house' clothing. And it's pretty comfortable; much better than even a loose pair of soft cotton shorts. I don't care if the pleats get wrinkled or if I spill my Guinness on it or drop a cigarette ash on it (though I'm very wary of the flammability issue with acrylic). I even wear it when I do my horse chores at night, throwing hay and such. I did some hoeing in the garden last night in it too. I'll never wear it off the property because it's a cheap and poorly-made kilt that just doesn't meet my standards for public display, but it's very comfortable to wear at home. However, when I have serious work to do like I spent this past weekend doing, where I'm weed-whacking through thistles which are taller than I am, and trimming cactus and trees off my fences, trousers are the right clothing for the job.

I think the kilt is comfortable enough that I'd prefer to wear it all the time, except for cases where it just isn't prudent to do so. I love wearing it. But sometimes even when it's perfectly appropriate, I find myself just putting on jeans and boots. I don't feel like being the center of attention (or even drawing undue attention) most of the time. It's a weird dichotomy - I love wearing the kilt because it's different and unique, but I often avoid wearing the kilt because it's different and unique. It just depends on the mood I'm in, or where I'm going.
