I have both full leather, full fur, and half and half and horse hair, and I use all of them during the day except the hore hair ones I use them a lot but only when ig going out not for just popping to the shops. Most of my Sporrans have come with kilts I have acquired so not had a lot of choice about what they are . some I have liked the look of and had to perchace the kilt to get the sporran as they are old vintage ones and the seller will not split . hence my collection of to big and to small kits ill have to sell on at some point.

I normally wear a fur sporran as my day sporran . I like it better than my leather sporran . For that matter my 4 year old when I can get him into his kilt wears a horse hair sporran as day wear . Little over dressed but cute non the less

It's skunk! it's marvelous!
My excuse for getting a black leather kilt is that it will be an excuse for getting a skunk fur sporran--or was it the other way around?
I am very fond of both of the fur day wear sporrans I have already--one black dyed rabbit with a leather flap and pin lock, the other grey fox (actually more of a grizzled brown), although admittedly I do not wear them very often:

I suppose I regard them as a bit more distinctive (and generally only wear the full grey fox one in cold weather). Also, women seem to be especially fascinated by fur sporrans (I've related before that I've actually had strange ladies approach me in public to enquire about and ask to touch mine, resulting in something like a scene from a "Benny Hill" sketch), perhaps as good a reason as any to not reserve them for evening/full dress occasions...

There does seem to be a definite blurring of the lines with this style of sporran. I've seen the same fur faced sporran, sold by the same supplier, listed as daywear and 'half-dress', so its up to the wearer to dress up or down as they see fit for the occasion.
I have both white and brown examples of this type and have worn casually to add a touch of style, and semi-formally as well, so yes, I'd happily wear as 'daywear'.

Spot on, Martin. As much as I like them, it's a bit difficult to decide when/where to wear them since they're typically neither formal nor informal. Nevertheless, with the right combination of other items, they really are quite distinctive and the definitive finishing touch, and--like so many other aspects of Highland Dress-- therein lies the pleasant challenge of wearing them.
