If you are going to condem statement the boys were making, then please go back and see what they were protesting. It was not "Girls can wear pants, so guys should be able to wear skirts". Girls were wearing shorts and PJ's to school, clothing that was prohibited by the dress code, but no one was stopping them. In my previous post, I gave an example from my own HS days that talked about the same thing.
So while I agree that this is not a culture issue, I applaude the boys for taking on the hypocracy that is rampant at their (and most schools).
As another example I offer this: a few years ago I was working as a substitute teacher. I watched the principal yell (and I mean yell) at a student for a dress code violation (kid had his shirt untucked). The principal and 4 other teachers in the immediate area (all the adults except me as it happened) were all in various violations of the dress code. Now the "Dress Code" technically doesn't apply to teachers, but how do they really expects the kids to respect it if they themeselves don't?

Come on! Does it have to be about heritage? Well, it is!
Come on, if you don't have to be Scottish and can wear any tartan or a solid color kilt in fabrics other than wool, it doesn't have to be about heritage. The common denominator is that they are male garments. They didn't protest by wearing halter tops or thong underwear coming out of their **** above the pants.
1. The article said they were of Scottish ancestry.
2. They wore a male garment.
3. They did not wear female garments.
4. They had a legitimate issue with the dress code.
5. They were tasteful in their presentation (As much as they could be on a limited budget.)
Yes, Schools need a dress code but at least defend the Kilt as a male garment. At least don't let the school define the Kilt as "inappropriate wear" (I ride a Harley, kilts aren't appriopriate). Females are wearing skirts everywhere and in a school. Many catholic schools have young girls wear skirts. I bet Montgomery High lets females wear skirts. They wear prom dresses also.
They protested reasonably and challenged the perception of the kilt among the community (school).
The kilt was not defined as inappropriate to begin with. The female dress code was not followed. They didn't protest breaking the dress code by wearing inappropriate male garments, but an appropriate one.
Many men are wearing Kilts that are not of Scottish descent. They are indirectly supporting "heritage." Should we not support him if he isn't a Scot? He gives credence to the Kilt so we should support him. What if Samuel Jackson was asked not to wear a Kilt at an awards ceremony? Tough luck Sam, you're not a Scot. If we don't support them, others will have less respect for those who choose to wear Kilts. They are helping the acceptance of the Kilt as a male garment. We should at least say it's a legitimate male garment.
If 95% of males in western countries worn Kilts, would we have others defy convention by wearing trousers?
It is about heritage. I don't understand the "drop it because it isn't about hertitage issue." Whuutt?
For all you Asians riding Harley's out there it's a American thing. Americans, sell your Kawayamasaki's it ain't you.
The Kilt
It I had to explain it, I hope you'd understand.
