This is the Registered Users Rank System

This is the rest of the ranking.

"House Chairman" is the title the forum staff members have given to KiltedCodeWarrior and Starbkjrus for taking on the responsibilities of the Celebration Zone.

Hank has designed the ribbons for those listed in the second group.

I don't have a problem with a little favoritism, after all, there is a "core" group that have been here practically forever, and it's cool with me some of the "stand-outs" get recognized in some small way. It not like those with custom titles are rubbing it in or anything.

Well, it seems like we have a mixed reaction. For the time being, I will continue as I have been. For me, it is a little like a game to see who is getting close to a new rank and I enjoy being able to congratulate them. And since the CZ does not add to post counts, there is no piling on just to increase your post count.

Let's give it a few weeks to a month and see how things play out.

I'd rather be the executioner of the keg.

Could I suggest that ALL moderator initiated celebration zone threads have a standarized subject line which prefaces with "Title Change", or "Happy Birthday" or whatever the occasion.

I use the New Posts link also and then scan down the subject column on the left side to see if the thread interests me. Then I have to look at the right side of the screen to verify if it is in the CZ if the subject is a bit questionable of content. This would just simplify my mental filtering.

I understand that some people like the feeling of "advancement" through their post count. I've seen forums that have to change servers go nuts until the admins told them their post counts would be retained. I personally don't see the big deal, and I never even look at my post count. I post when I have something to day, and don't when I don't.

The CZ seems to be a good solution to trends seen before, where someone who needs twenty new posts just posts twenty inane posts in a row to congratulate themselves. At least this way there's some semblance of on-topic to the rest of the forums. However, appointing monitors to keep track of congratulatory messages seems like having to write Valentine's Day cards for everyone in your kindergarten class, just so no one feels left out. No one congratulated me on my last rank up, but then again I didn't even notice until ten posts later.

However, I completely agree with Ackwell - when I click on the New Posts button I'm having a hard time sorting through all the congratulatory threads to find the "real" posts. Someone mentioned ignoring the CZ, but those posts show up automatically in the New Posts search. Is there a way to exclude the CZ from the New Posts? I'm all for having that forum exist, but it's distracting if I can't check the forums for two days, and find 600 new posts, two-thirds of which are "Congratulations to a new Noble!"

I'm sure we'll be able to work through the transition here, as always. This is a great community.

    Andrew.

I only post when I feel I have somthing to say. That can be as simple as letting somone know that I agree with them to asking or answering questions ext.
Post count never enters into it. I'm still in shock that I have over 100 posts, I'm generally a pretty quiet person. Never thought I had that much to say.. 8-)

Perhaps one day I'll glance over there and see that I've achieved the title of Grand single malt sipper.

As far as the changes that brought this topic into play, it does'nt bother me in the least. Sometimes I go check out whos becoming more involved (and thus gaining new titles) & other times I just skip over that section. No big deal.

Getting around the 'problem' with the C.Z. messages showing up in the New Posts link is as simple as entering the forum and looking for the sections with highlighted Saltires. If the Saltire is highlighted, there are new posts. If it is not highlighted, there are no new posts. Of course this method is going to require you to make that one, extra click...
