Women and Kilt Wearing

There are reasons why they shouldn't as well. For example, it is a man's garment, and if they care about the tradition of the kilt they will not try to feminize it.

Probably because all of the members of this board wear the kilt for a wide variety of reasons.

But I have read enough of your posts and feedback to know you know this. Your just wanted some good conversation and I think you have gotten it. For myself, I am very much biased and love to see a woman in a skirt/kilt skirt/mini-kilt/reverse man's kilt or whatever else you want to call it. And I will go a step further (and show my juvenile side) and say that shorter is normally better! And a woman dressed in a nice short skirt, black hose (it is winter now), and tall boots is very pleasing to see, especially with a tight blouse!

It seems to me that all the reasons put forth so far as to 'why a woman should not wear a kilt', the crux of most of which seems to be "because it's for men", have been used before to explain the following:

'why a woman should not wear pants'
'why a woman should not join a certain club'
'why a woman should not play cards'

While I think we'd all agree that the reason "because it's for men" is no longer good enough for the above examples (I hope), I suppose it still carries some weight when used in some explanations. I guess different cultures value the reason "because it's for men" differently.

I'd go further to say that the argument has probably been made throughout history that men should not wear un-bifurcated garments "because they're for women". I really can't see that argument as any different than "because it's for men".

i don't think women belong in kilts that is what skirts are for if you want to wear a tartan skirt then do so but please do not wear a kilt as a skirt.

For me,
The kilt is made as a mans garment. I hate to say it but a woman in a real kilt looks sort of manly. I'm not sure they're a womanly garment. I don't think women in pipe and drum bands are nessisarily going for all out femininity, its the functional uniform of the unit. There wearing the kilt for the band and tartan they represent. They would look worse in tartan Trews in a band.

I do like a mini hip hugger in tartan. Even a slightly longer version. There more Fashion and feminine fun. There not a kilt in the true sence but allow a woman ( my wife included) to wear her family tartan but still look feminine.

I guess thats fair enough
