For me it just depends on what I'm purchasing. I prefer to use just my credit card. I have one that just gets used online. I'll use PayPal but just not that comfortable with it yet, probably just don't buy enough. If it's a case of sending a check and waiting for it to clear before it's shipped.....I need to "know" the company/person and REALLY want the product. Now, for a new belt.....just need the $$$ in the bank first

I will only use PayPal as a last resort. Some transactions require it, and I have passed up purchases that I would have made otherwise. Much prefer the phone call and credit card method. It isn't that I don't trust PayPal, though I don't believe in the doctrine of PayPal infallibility (Oh. Sorry about that!), but they have this funny policy about not supporting my exercise of my civil rights under the Second Amendment.
Please don't derail this over that though. It is just my own opinion.

Careful with the debit card on line - someone gets illicit or intercepts some can clean out your entire account balance. Some banks have protection, some don't. That's why I use the credit card. Can always move funds over to cover it but the purchase with the credit card gives more safety and recourse for fraud.

I've with riverkilt on this one. No matter what anyone says, never use a debit card for online transactions. Use a credit card and pay it off the next day if you must, but using a debit card online is asking for trouble. Most sites are extremely safe to use, but even the most secure site has someone trying to hack it.

I've been doing LOTS of online shopping for years. (In fact, I do so much online shopping that I even have my credit card numbers + security codes memorized!) If PayPal is offered, it's my preferred payment method. Now, I don't lose any sleep sending credit card information via a secure, encrypted website, but never sending a merchant your credit card info at all just adds an extra layer of security. I've never had a problem with PayPal & I just ignore their pitch to connect with my bank account.
