It might be entertaining to see someone try though.

Here in Chicago we have a charge called "Disorderly Conduct" which is the catch-all charge for anybody who does anything that the cops think he ought to be taken in for.
My argument has been that if they decide that they want to take me in for wearing a sword in public, they also have to take in all of the Fourth degree Knights of Columbus as well.

Just in case any of you might be traveling with your broadsword, a word of caution. Local law in NYC forbids carrying any kind of knife over 3 inches. What kind of tizzy could the sword make?

Back in my younger days, I was into fencing, and went to many tournaments. I never had any problems traveling with swords. Of course this was pre-9/11.

James,
As a former fencer (epee') I can't imagine any officer having a problem with someone transporting fencing equipment, assuming it wasn't being used in an inappropriate manner.
As for carrying an actual sword, common sense should lead one in knowing when and where would be appropriate

In the U.S.A. we have the right to bear arms. you only need a permit to have concealed weapons.

Let's not take this thread there, please. I started it to find out how to carry a broadsword.

i'd say one of those belts to sling over the shoulder would be pretty cool to carry the sword. though i have no idea where to get one, internet?
