Where you will find a k-bar like skian-dub sized knife, likely made by k-bar is an air force survival knife. Saw some at a gun/knife show last month for about $20, I'm cursing now that I did not go back to that table.

Dang that got me to drooling and googling...found this but its 9 1/2" and that hardly seems miniature to me and a bit too long for a sgian dubh...

    http://www.eabco.com/cgi-bin/shopper...key=725-212505

I'm guessing a 9 1/2" sgian dubh would be too long for the curve of the calf and wind up pushing the kilt hose out, probably wearing on the hose with the point of the sheath. The extra couple inches of metal may add too much weight too. Curious.

There's also a guy on ebay, Paul Chen selling a mini kabar for $10 and claims it sharpens into a pretty good little knife, but the pic look a match to the aluminum letter opener replica and its gotta be a scam.

If someone could just make the letter opener replica out of better metal, in that size....

What I saw looked much like this one

    http://www.bestglide.com/AF_Survival_Knife_Info.html

but it seemed smaller then 9 1/2 inches, all other details [leather washer handle, hex pommel, blade shape] are dead on, arrggh!... bad memory......

The AF Survival knife is much too large and HEAVY to be a sgian dubh.

As someone who always wears a sgian dubh, I find this conversation (no way close to an obsession) about knives very healthy. Like it or not - The sgian dubh is a part of highland attire. Just as a pocket knife is part of many men's pocket contents.

The pocket knife and by extension the sgian dubh is a tool. No obsessive thoughts what-so-ever.

And that is one of the beauties of this board. - - We can discuss different items, and points of view and still remain friends.

I must also say that I am mystified when some people are bothered by cutting instruments.

Indeed, if you describe a 9 1/2 in knife as a pocket knife, where's my copy of Crocodile Dundee

Perhaps...the full size Kabar could be worn as a "dirk."

I've never worn a dirk, and seldom wear the sgian dubh...don't feel obsessed with knives since one sgian dubh is really an aluminum letter opener and the other has a completely unsharpened blade....but maybe I should look at that. Maybe my kit hose would appreciate not having that extra stretch.

Find my self wondering what the original topic of the thread was and feeling bad about the hijack....so back on topic. The only bayonet kilt pin I'd have interest in would be the kabar for my leatherneck.
