Getting away from the subject of murdering innocent cats (you sick freaks!) I decided to try an experiment today, inspired by this thread. Now, I normally wear my sporrans from suspenders instead of belts or chains. I decided to wear my chain today, which is something I normally save for formal occasions. Half the day, the chains were in the belt loops, and half the day, they were out. I was able to move the sporran around just fine in both cases. No problems with the whole going to the little boys room at all, either way. (I did have a Jamaican woman spend several minutes gushing over how sexy I looked in the grocery store, but that's neither here nor there, as the saying goes.) However, I did have a minor issue getting my sporran to behave when I was out. and it was our of the loops, and I was just walking around. I made the mistake of going to the mall. I hate those places- ignormagnets. So the result of my experiment was: Belt loops make the sporran behave without any intervention from me. No belt loops, and my sporran liked to wander around quite a bit. It wasn't so much a problem as it was a nuisance, and the real point of wearing a kilt in the first place is the comfort! Having to make your accessories behave detracted from how comfortable my kilted day was. So there you have it. For me personally, belt loops are best.

It really depends on the type of sporran and strap. I've tried wearing a sporran chain inside the belt loops, but I find that the buckle usually catches on the loops when moving the sporran. With a continuous leather strap I can slide the sporran itself along the strap, (which you can't do with a chain because of the D-ring attachment), and wearing the strap inside the loops is no problem. Still, I find it much easier to wear the sporran strap or chain outside the loops, and I've never had problems with the sporran wandering.

It moves around for me when I don't put it through the belt loops, so I stick it through. Thankfully it's pretty easy to swing around while it's through the loops for using the bathroom. I tend to use the chains more than the belt because I haven't punched it yet, and because of the new-ness of the belt, the sporran top hangs forward a bit. I'm not sure what I'm worrying about, because I doubt I'm going to get stopped, "Oi, mate, your sporran top's a bit forward. Show some decency." or whatever.

I'm curious as to how running quickly with it on works. I should go find out. Worst of all cases, I take it off when I have to run, but then I run into the problem of the kilt coming up a bit, meaning I have to use my hands to put it down, slowing me down overall. I suppose the sporran helps with that.

In my experience, the sporran is problematic when running, as it tends to bounce around a lot, especially if heavy. Mine usually contains my wallet, keys and phone, so it's fairly hefty. I usually either hold it down with one hand or move it to my hip.

Unless I were really hungry for a full-mask sporran.

I've never had any serious problem running while kilted. I'm even considering wearing it for a 15k next April. For dressed up occasions (when I'm running late) I've done the dash to the car and had not more problems than I would dress in a tux. The sporran isn't so low that it hits much of the leg.

My avatar picture was taken at a rugby match. I was tossing and running. I took off my sporran eventually, but only to be more competitive.

As far as running with a kilt and sporran, it's best not to be wearing briefs. That's all I'm saying.

    Run?
    Pah!
Running is a sign of poor character.
If you have to run, you should have left earlier.
    Poor personal time management.

I don't know about running. I'm the one with the sword usually, so people are running from me; not the other way around.

Seriously- I do sword fight in my kilt. I don't know about running, but fighting isn't a problem.
