Though my tartan is not a clan tartan, I second the post of MacMillan of Rathdown, and add that the Black Watch and other tartans with meaning should not be insulted.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

Some flowers are illegal to pick in some places. In Ontario, the provincial flower is the White Trillium. There is a steep fine if you pick one.
Check before you pick!!

Feather, Feathers, and More Feathers
The whole purpose behind the wearing of eagle feathers was to enable clansmen to quickly identify their leaders in the field.
According to long established custom, eagle feathers are indicative of rank:
A chief is entitled to three eagle feathers.
A chieftain* is entitled to two eagle feathers.
A gentlemen (one who is armigerous) is entitled to one eagle feather.
*Feudal barons, following the old custom, often wear two eagle feathers as indicative of their feudo-military status within their clan. Anciently, in times of crisis, a baron was able to muster every able bodied man in his barony for military service, irrespective of clan affiliation. As a result a baron would often be able to field more "swords" than a chieftain and thus took on the status of "commander" of men within the clan. As a "commander" on the field the baron, like a chieftain, wore two feathers for purposes of identification.
As eagle feathers are restricted by custom to the above group of gentlemen (and ladies!) they should not be worn by others. Pheasant feathers, turkey feathers, peacock feathers, and the feathers plucked from your pillow can be worn by anyone wishing to decorate their bonnet, although good taste suggests that one should not emulate the grouping of feathers representing chiefs and chieftains (or barons).

For some that may be a bit new here, the dandelion has become the flower of Clan X-Marks, and therefore appropriate to indicate your affiliation here.
Wear it proudly.

Ah, you beat me to it Steve. I remember the discussions, and the dandelion fits us well as it is found the world over, and is a very tenatious plant.

The Dandelion is already the Clan Plant of what is possibly one of the strongest Clans currently around.
This Clan is one where it's members actually know and speak to each other on a regular basis. The membership is growing at an exponential rate as outsiders find that it embodies the true spirit and meaning of the word Clan.
I am speaking of course of this Clan. X Marks. Highlandtide is our Chief and if wishes to wear three eagle feathers in his bonnet I will defend his right to do so.
Five years ago we designed and had woven our Clan Tartan.
two years ago we designed, and had approved, our Clan Badge.
Last year we adopted the Dandelion as our Clan Plant. The Dandilion was chosen because it "Symbolizes the undefeatable spirit, and universality of who we are and where we live".
Members of The Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs have commented to me personally that "X Marks is operating in the true sense of Clan". So, if you wish to show to the world your membership in this Clan, X Marks, please proudly wear the Dandelion behind your Badge on your bonnet.

About 10 minutes from me is an exotic bird farm with lots of pheasant and other types of avian. I plan on stopping by and procuring a nice small feather for my bonnet hopefully a white one.
