    Smile Rooster Feathers

A friend of mine is helping me decorate my kitchen in a rooster theme, and she has started calling my kilts "rooster feathers." Just thought it was funny.

My wife sometimes likens me to a peacock, mainly when I take too long trying to figure out the shirt/hose/kilt combo for the day.

In our household my beloved F-H.C.A.G. often refers to me as her "Tartan Peacock".

Your beloved F-H.C.A.G. and my wife both call me something other than Tartan Peacock. Surpisingly both call me the same unprintable thing, yet they've never met or conversed. How cool is that ?

Jay, I think she may have been referring to the colorful rooster's tail.

You weren't compared to a bird of paradise? Then you've got to work on your kilted dancing...

Here's the deal. I wear a solid color kilt a lot, not that roosters can't have colorful tails, but... Also, I think she was thinking of the way the pleats fold a little on the side when you sit down looking a little like a rooster's tail. She has called them peacock feathers a couple of times, but thought rooster feathers sounds better. Guess turkey feathers would work too. Oh, and we were decorating my kitchen with roosters when she started saying that.

It's the way of nature. Among a lot of species, especially birds, the males are the colorful ones. Why shouldn't we be the same? I call wearing a bright tartan "getting in touch with my inner peacock."

Yes, that is true. Also, in our culture women wear "make-up, but in a lot of cultures men "face paint." We're all just a bunch of birds.

I think it may be the case that women in our culture are not used to being outshined by their men. Because the kilt is still considered unusual garb on men in the North America, kilt-wearers tend to stand out like the strutting rooster or brilliantly colored peacock.
