My nephew's birthday party is tomorrow. King Jakob wants a Renaissance party- it seems all the festivals I dragged him to this summer made an impression. He wants me there in my Renaissance Scots garb for his friends to see. My brother and my sister in law are dressing as English nobles, and Jake's big brother is wearing a jester costume (which for him is very appropriate.) Drinks on hand are to include (ginger) ale and (root) beer. I am providing short bread and ***gulp*** American pallet friendly haggis (meaning no organ meat ) and mead for the adults. I made Jake a shield to go with the wooden sword and dirk he got this last summer. It should be a lot of fun- my baby bro and sis in law are going all out. Pics will follow. (Bear in mind that my outfit is not complete and still in the stages of getting put together- my dirk for example is not made. All I have is the 1800's style dirk that I use for cake cutting and haggis addressing at weddings, so I know it's not period- but the kids don't know that and they will love it.)

I tried this last year and a guest at my friends party took me to task for showing up without a costume. She was not mollified when my friend tried to explain that for me jeans and a western/cowboy shirt is a costume. She glared at me the rest of the evening. I just figured that, while she didn't realise it, I was helping finish out her costume as a harpie. Always good to help other people find ways to express themselves, isn't it!

Well, I will not be kilted for Halloween, though not by choice. Seems I will be dressed as a paramedic, as I have to work that weekend. But I had wanted to wear my phillabeg and jacobite shirt. Oh well, maybe next weekend....

I suppose it's time for me to reveal what my all hallows eve costume will be this year, does anyone remember The WickerMan with Christopher Lee as Lord Summerisle?

Now who wants to dress as Edward Woodward?

All I really need now is the crazy 70's hair now.

OH MY!

You need to carry around a blueprint for the wickerman around with you
(and a measuring tape)

The Wickerman is one of my favorite Iron Maiden tunes, as well!

I am still thinking of going as the mascot of Little Caesers Pizza. Orange Toga. MUG still, but not a kilt.
