I understand what you are saying, and in a cetain sense agree with you, but....
Sometimes we take ourselves way too seriously. We don't respect the kilt because it is a kilt or is representative of a nation we respect it because it has, in a way, become representative of a people, and those people that comprise that nation. It's about repecting the people.
Now are the making fun of the people of Scotland, or are they playing to a stereotype, a stereotype that everyone knows is a myth. Sometimes you just gotta laugh, roll your eyes and walk on!

WOW, I think I just got learned. Separate the stereotype from the people and THEN it's funny. I hadn't even considered doing that. Only $40? Hmm....
EDIT: Looking at this, it sounds a bit sarcastic. I was being serious.

Funny, I saw a few guys in versions of that outfit at the renfaire last weekend
There was one guy sporting that exact same costume, with a big-*** claymore strapped to his back, his face painted blue, soccer socks and white sneakers! I so wanted to get a photo, but he went into a shop and I got tired of waiting for him to come back out.
I wasn't offended though, while that costume is a stereotypical Scotsman parody, intended for halloween etc... I think those guys at faire were making an honest attempt to be a part of the show, I'll give them points for wanting to wear the kilt. One would hope they realize they looked a bit comical, and will upgrade their kit soon.

3) How about I sqint my eyes and talk in pidgin English/fake Chinese all night while wearing old Chinese dress.
4) walk around in old soviet military dress with a vodka bottle, red hammer and sickle t-shirt maybe.
5) An american military uniform covered in fake blood? With plastic firearms of course.
6) A electric wheelchair and laptop with TTS software, ala Stephen Hawking?
7) forego the laptop with the above and wear a tracksuit with the special olympics logo?
You should do whichever one of those that gets you the most candy

Just goes to show how I failed to appreciate the thrift possible for this situation.

It is absolutely rediculous and a bit vulgar in my humbled opinion. If I ran into someone sporting that get up I would let them know my opinion as well. <Quote>
It's a costume, plain and simple. You may find it ridiculous and vulgar but to have a stranger "endure" your opinion because you feel that way,is as ridiculous as the outfit you are chastising IMHO.
To each their own......
