Need better way to find each other.
I suggest xmarks set up a thread category under which each thread is for a specific state, province (for the USA and Canada) or country so members who live there can list themselves if they like. I find the Kilt Map cumbersome and not so useful, and the roll call unproductive. The thread title would be just the name of your "land unit", such as mine, Nevada (rather than United States), or England or Scotland (rather than Great Brittain), or Brazil, or Nova Scotia (rather than Canada) or Botswana or whatever. That way its clear and quick as to who is where, and we can contact each other more easily as desired, as neighbors or when planning to visit an area.

Or if the members list included that info and was sortable.

You could start a thread in the "Kilt Nights" section that is dedicated to your region. Southern California has that, so do a lot of other regions; heck, Vancouver and Philly got so busy that they have their own forums. It's not comprehensive, but anyone who wants to be involved can subcribe to the thread and then get notifications when someone local is doing something.

Back when we were on the old server (over a year ago) location was sortable. Still sasn't much help because so many members don't list "real" locations.

My location is right up there with my forum name, number of posts and "Kilted Elder. here is a ,ap of Amelia county Va. I would be just off state route 708, about halfway between Mannboro Va and Sutherland Va. Richmond is about 30 miles northeast and Petersburg is about 20 miles east.

Isnt this part of the reason why we have the kilt map? To see where people are?
Just saw that you find it cumbersome, fair enough.

I like the idea of individual threads for an area. As Iolaus noted Vancouver and Philly have their own forums. So it is just a matter of enough location specific trafic to justify it. I do not check the kilt map much. I would rather be able to sort members list by country, state/province, city. As it is just post a note on an event and see if anyone nibbles, like this http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=17996
Also when I am travelling I alter my location in the control panel so if someone looks at a post of mine it shows a more current area.

And I believe that only a small fraction of the users are actually on the KiltMap. How could this be improved? Probably no way as so many folks are very keen on privacy/anonimity on the web.

I treid that kilt map and two things happened: 1 got frustrated because it didn't make any sense. 2 some clown started spamming me pretending to want friendship when they were trying to sell grunge wear!
