I have only one tie for wear with mykilts and it's a silk US Marine Corps Regimental.. I will not worry about matching it to anything, thanks to previous threads Jock started about a year ago.

Well spotted, MacLL! I have one of these or order from Beau Ties Ltd. It looks like it will go well:

... although it's a gold rather than yellow stripe. There are some summery-looking ones in the vicinity, with a yellow background and blue stripes, which look nice. One of those is on my wish list for next time... Now all i need to to is make the kilt. The poor tartan is ready to be measured, but still languishes in the proto-atelier.

You bet! Here's one I just bought, and a plug for supporting the prostate cancer foundation as well:

I like the tie, and I like what it stands for.

Don't forget the caveat that even if they don't have to match, they do have to look good together. Our Scottish brethren who so avidly admonish active coordination tend to have a better natural eye than most Americans I know. The things Jock Scot slaps together would take me at least a few minutes of consideration to achieve the same effect

Forgot to mention anything about the original question! Oops. All the ties I wear with my kilt are silk, and most of them tend to be glossy. I don't worry too much about it. As long as they don't actively clash I'll wear it. Most of the tie is hidden by a waistcoat anyway.
