Yup, that's the Mull tartan I'm wearing the above pic. :-)

David, those Tain hose are a bit thinner than the Lewis, so I suppose they compare more to the Glenmore in that respect.

The nice ones first, from left to right.

Lovat green, yellow marl, thick wool, nice cabling. Came with a Harris tweed jacket I bought off eBay.

Red and green diced hose. These are from J. Higgins via davidlpope and are a bit larger than my other hose, but I try not to look a gift horse in the mouth!

Argyle hose. My lass scored these on eBay for about $25 and they go quite nicely with my Douglas modern tartan kilt.

Navy, soft wool. These Locharron hose were a xmas gift and I was quite sad when after washing, they came out two different sizes. It took a lot of stretching/shrinking to even them out, but the process wasn't good for the wool, hence the pilling.

Lovat green. These are basic but the wool is really nice. They also came with an eBay jacket and, even though they've been darned in couple places, I still like 'em

And the not as nice ones, left to right. I say not as nice because they are thinner and have less real wool in them.

Black from the Scotland Kilt Co.

Grey from eBay.

Light khaki from the Scotland Kilt Co. These were white

and I tried to dye them dark green. Apparently they are mostly synthetic because the colour is just a shade darker than original. At least they're not stark white now though

It's been a good week for hose at my mailbox. Shown here are the Sandringham hose from House of Cheviot's Country line in Heathland Marl. Very substantial fold over. Also their Lewis hose in Claret and garter ties in tartan red. Seen below are some Diamond ribbed knee highs in denim from Sock Dreams. I've already got a few in other colours, but have been waiting for this colour to come back in stock. They make excellent warm weather socks for casual wear. All will get their trials very soon.

Those hose in Heathland Marl are VERY nice. House of Cheviot makes wonderful hose, don't they?

For those interested, the Scottish Tartans Museum will be expanding the range of hose we offer from House of Cheviot. I'm working on a major update to the gift shop site which will reflect this (among other changes), but until that is "live" you can preview some of the new styles we'll be offering here. Last weekend at the Greenville Highland Games I had the chance to once more speak with Sir Malcolm MacGregor of MacGregor. He always has the best kilt hose!

These are what he was wearing last Saturday.

They were hand knit by his great-grandmother and are over 110 years old by his estimate!

He says the family has a trunk full of hose she knit. Here are another pair knit by her hand that the MacGregor was wearing a couple of years ago when I first met him at the Stone Mountain Games in Atlanta.

What a lucky devil to have such a "treasure chest" and also quite lucky that at least SOME of them fit.

If it had been my Great-grandmother knitting, everything would have been a size 14.5 (grandfather) or a size 8 (father & great-grandfater) and I'd be stuck high and dry w/o a single pair.

It's hard to see in xman's post above, but both pairs of hose have cables worked into the cuffs, and they're real cables, to boot! I really like the green ones.

Did you also find out the story behind that kilt he's wearing? I notice there is no fringe on the apron.
