It was planned that way. In the story line, unlike the Doctor, the Master was able to control his final appearance when he regenerated.

But you are right about JHD who as a child actor not only played Tom Brown but perhaps more famously Oliver Twist in the classic David Lean version with Alec Guinness as Fagin. He went on to work on the other side of the camera.

Thanks for that info about JHD. I must be losing it getting him confused with RTD.

So that's why he ended up as Eric Roberts in the movie.

Though I really appreciated the villiany of Roger Delgado...he put the Master up there with Ming the Merciless. Anthony Ainley did a great job of taking the character over. He picked it up where Roger delgado left off and added his own touches. If ya wanna have good heroes, ya gotta have good villians.

One of things I purchased in Glasgow was the 2nd series on DVD. I'm impressed. I can't wait until I get to the Cybermen and the Darleks...

I can't remember Anthony Ainsley for some reason, but for me I can never forget Roger Delgado's masterly Master.
I have just obtained the DVD series of Sir Francis Drake where he played the Spanish Ambassador, quite some time before Dr Who started.

I seem to remember that anytime I saw Anthony Ainley in anything he was playing a "cad" of some sort or another...type cast!
