I've seen a few other threads lately with posts about wearing hiking boots with a kilt. There have even been some posts out there about sandals with kilts. There's a lot of talk about scrunchy hose, so I don't think I'm out of place with the thick knee high socks for gardening.

Also, in my gardening in a kilt thread, I have posted about prefering 3/4 inch hose in combination with gray water aplications. I have 1/2 inch hoses mostly, but you use what you have It also helps to have a giant box of O rings for the garden hose.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

I found some thick knee high, gray and black marl looking socks at Walmart today. They are about the same as the solid gray socks with the red stripe at the top that I found at JC Penny. They aught to do as well as the others. Before too long, it will be sandal weather out here.

As far as the watering hose goes. A while back I tried one of those roll out, flat hoses that are covered with a woven canvis-like cover... the sun ate it up right away, so thumbs down on those. The best so far have been the heavy deuty, rubber crimpless hoses, and by far.

The black rubber craftsman hose works pretty good and tends not to crack when freezing.

Yep, that's a good hose. If I remember correctly, it has brass ends with... turnability to them, so you don't have to turn the whole hose to tighten the male end into a stationary female hose bib or something like that. Yep good hose there, and the sun doesn't dammage it much either.

Just a bit too small to get your leg down in that hose. Na, I can talk either kind of hose. I want to get some brown Lewis hose to go with my Weathered Half Lamont.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

The Lewis hose from the Scottish Tartan Museum are GREAT.
I have several pair and love them. I want MORE!

Don't think I'd use them in the garden, though. They are wool and need to be handwashed.

    Oh wait.

You meant the kind on the lower leg . . .

I'd say the "soccer socks" would be good, as they are washable in machine and cheap enough to trash.

Ya, that's why I was getting those knee high socks. They're very, very thick and have a bit of a cable paterned top, and don't seem to look too bad for casual. They're not long enough to turn down like kilt hose, but you can get them at Walmart for... I think five or so dollars, under ten dollars. That is the perfect kind of garden knock around kilt socks for me.

Also, I like brass quick connects with built-in valves, but the plastic ones aren't too bad if you need a bunch of them and can't spend that much.

Well, in another gardening thread Retro Red asked me what kind of hose I like for gardening. Good enough reason to bump this one.
And here is his post from that thread... Just for the record.
