I still keep trying to tell my wife that "Hey, Jude" was about the Beatles and drugs.
"the minute you let her under your skin" I am I right, or what ?!?!?!

Did the words of;"the Whiter Shade of Pale" make sense then? Have they ever made any sense? I ponder. Maybe they did, when there was a wee haze, a purple one, was about?

While I was at the pub a few days ago, some 20-somethings where discussing a History Channel show about Woodstock. I chimed in that I had seen it, and we talked about some of the show's details and the music. At one point I said that Woodstock was about the only thing besides Viet Nam and the moon landings that I remembered being on the news as a kid. One of my young friends asked "You saw Woodstock and the moon landing on the TV news? When were you born?" I told them 1962, and they said "Wow"

I was born in 61 and thinking I am getting old when those born in 1980 are thinking they are old... My first born was born in 1980...and wait till they learn what "whip it" was about.

Damn, I'm I the *only* one who got those references when I was younger? Thats what I get for spending the vast majority of my time with adults. Maybe that's why I'm so disgruntled...?
Totally didn't see the Godfather thing till you mentioned it though...all great movies get bits recycled now and again.

A light bulb just now went on: this scene was clearly based -- or perhaps outright stolen -- from the baptism scene in The Godfather.
I also didn't know until a year or so ago that The Who's "Magic Bus" is about a drug dealer.
I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
I'm going to have to re-watch the Godfather tonight.

At some point a couple years back my lovely Flame-Haired Celtic Amazon Goddess and I were talking about the problems and cost of drug use on society and I made a comment about marijuana cigarettes.
She informed me that no one on planet Earth uses the term "marijuana cigarettes". This was a subject that was not particularly knowledgeable about and this led to a discussion about slang drug references.
As she was informing me about the various monikers I made a connection and exclaimed:
"Does this mean The Doobie Brothers aren't really related!"
I live in a sheltered world.
That's OK, it's pleasant here and everyone knows me.

Cheers
