The OP purchased "Cali-brogues," which take chunky to a whole other level beyond Docs: steel toes and combat soles. I'm interested to know how troxel87 plans on wearing them? They definitely suggest an alternative approach to formal wear...

Hey Gents,
It doesn't matter what shoes you are wearing. Only that you are sporting the kilt...

Soooo...may we read from this that the novelty of a kilt is enough to overcome a girl's natural inclination to judge a man by his shoes?

But what about hotel and restaurant staff?

Ok, girls do judge guys by their shoes. That said, you see zero kilts in any given day in the Phoenix area. I guarantee you here, all eyes will be on the kilt.

It won't be truly formal, they are for my son's christening in Washington State. I had NO black dress shoes whatsoever, and I figured that a) I'm tough on shoes most of the time, and b) they look nice enough to wear to church. Which is where I'm going
I understand that the soles of the shoes are quite chunky and won't do well for a ball or any other black/white tie affair, but so far their comfort and durability are my main concern. Although, I didn't want to wear my brown Doc Martens to a child's christening, especially MY child's christening :P
When the spousal unit allows me off restriction from large purchases, I will be investing in a nice pair of brogues, as I do occasionally attend classier events that require a higher level of dress.
