"... I felt fairly inconspicuous in my 'day casual' highland attire. THERE IS DEFINITELY A DIFFERENCE in how one is perceived while wearing traditional versus casual contemporary kilt garb. I will entertain the theory that part of it could be me, as in I might feel more comfortable in terms of my image when I am dressed in a more traditional fashion ..."
I think this is the way to deal with the relatives, too. If you wear your kilt with an easy confidence, people accept you. It is when you look nervous that people sense weakness and try to get you to fit their style preferences.
Mychael,I am really glad everything went well. I think the it was the same with my sister(not knowing what to expect)that had her wondering. One more milestone under your kilt belt.
It's good to hear that everything worked out so nicely. I'm also glad to see that you were able to demonstrate the versitility of kilts. Kilts for gatherings and kilts for recreation.
Mychael, I'm glad everything went so well and the experience turned out well for all concerned. I suspected it might. Well done, and I should say it speaks well of your concern for Grandma that you put so much time and thought into your decision.
I'd call Granny and say that I'd be more than willing to not wear my kilt...but I had a request to make of her...no slacks...no pants...for her. If she wears a dress...I'll wear pants. If she insists on wearing pants...then I'm going to wear a kilt.

If I did THAT, she wouldn't give me that big can of cookies to take home with me, now would she?!
I have finally gotten around to having the film from that birthday dinner developed. A few of the pics were nice, so I scanned them and can actually now claim to have something in the gallery of the family and me.
