When a problem recurs over something so small, it would appear that there is an underlyign reason for her criticism and cruelty.
Not sure how she should be dealt with, since I think the kilt is just an opportunity for her to attack. A few initial questions and answers about the kilt satisfies most all the people I meet, even the most critical. I would think she might be upset about something else, and using the kilt as an opprtunity to attack perhaps?

Attacking the kilt, because of another wrong seems a bit rash, don't you think? Wouldn't she have said something? I dunno, I think ya might have to ask her, man!

My definition of stupidity is voluntary and intentional ignorance. You're no more harsh towards her than I am. I agree with you completely.

I'm not sure if this was for me or DSF. So I'll answer it!
My sister in law is one of those people who knows her opinion is the correct one, and is the ONLY correct one. For example, after the last Highland Fest here in Colorado, I was driving home with my family. The steel belting in one of my tires broke right before I got onto the interstate. I didn't know what the problem was, all I knew was that my car was doing something really weird. My brother is an extremely gifted mechanic and a professional engineer (and P-whipped like you would not believe). My sis in law wouldn't let him look at my car because I'm not Christian. It was a punishment from God. Wearing thinks like kilts makes me a cross dresser, and God hates me. That's how she is. That's why her first marriage fell apart- her husband just couldn't take Lil' Ms Control Freak any longer. She's a sweet person in many ways and has been a good friend of mine for a long time, but the more I get to know her, the more frustrated I get, and the more I understand why her first husband left her. So theunderlying reason for her cruelty- I'm not doing things the way she thinks I should, so I'm wrong, and it is her God given mission to correct me.

I'd bet my beard she's never read the entire bible. Perhaps she should take more consideration of her flaws, rather than try and "fix" you.

No. There's no other problem, argument, or anything else between us. She is a bit of a gossip, though. I think she gets off on dishing on my new choice of clothing. Ticks me off the more I think about it, though.

Could she be?
Methinks I smell a homophobe. She may think you're flirting with coming out of the closet so this is her way of saving you, by disapproving of your kilt. Who knows what goes on in someone's mind?! I don't know why some twisted people associate kilts with being gay. I have a number of gay friends and not one of them wears a kilt. I agree with the others.........sit her down over a cup of coffee and ask her why she's talking behind your back. Tell her why you wear it and that you're going to keep on wearing it, so she'd better just get used to it. Eventually, she'll realize that you haven't gone off the deep end and that you're still the person she befriended, only kilted.
Regards,
RB

It seems that instead of "fixin'" herself, she wants to "fix" everyone else.
I really hate it when people bring religion in on like that.
