Sounds like he has a missionary zeal to convert his schoolfellows!

He wants to take me for show and tell, you see, both in our kilts. He wants me to tell a Scottish tale or two (maybe tell of sylkies or the terrible Haggis that roams the hillsides of the Scottish Highlands). I thought I'd also gather the names of the other kids in his class and look up a brief history of their surname (being of Celtic origin or not) to help start them on their way to discovering who they are.
That sounds like a fantastic idea! Looking into the family's past is soemthing I;ve done since a young age when my dad would take me to the public records in the basment of the library and spend hours going through reams of microfiche. Kids find history far more interesting when it involves them!

I know it's not usual to quote oneself!

Having got the scanning bug after doing the Major General in another thread I decided to dig out my first kilted picture and scan it. The original is somewhat faded and I have tried to tart it up and improve it and here is the result.

As I remember it was taken in Harrogate in the early 1980s. I still have the Hunting Stewart kilt (given to me by a friend) but it's the one that the moths got at later so I don't count it as part of my kollection. I still have and use the sporran and belt though! The flashes were bought in a Scouting supply shop and given extra elastic as my legs were somewhat wider than your average Cub Scout! The hose was bought in Dundee.

And an attempt at a more detailed view. How the years can ravage one's hair!

McClef: What is it with all you blokes on here who don't seem to have aged a day since you were teenagers.
Are you all photoshopping your newer pictures or can I really hope that wearing a kilt is going to stave off the aging process for me?

That's very kind and sweet of you Arlen!

Unfortunately you only have to compare this one with more recent pics of me! Nothing has been photoshopped - I don't even have that program!

However I was not able to wear a kilt for several years so continuous wearing could well bring about the result that you desire!

My very first kilt . My hand sewn 8 yarder in Modern Gunn Made by the ladies of Hector Russell. Thanks ladies... BTW It no longer fits ... Diet in the works I think.

BTW the picture (Taken by my wife in our garden) was so good that it has been used several places on the net without my consent.

Sharp eyes will notice that my ghillies are not tied at the side
    All the Best.....David.

Maybe that's why the picture has been used?
