Very true. The taste, though? Didn't care for it. Just personal preference. Like I said I'm more of a fried squid guy. That can be pretty delicate too but more to my liking. The squid at our local resturant "The James" is amazing.

P.S. The chopped up spam added to my dehydrated meals on the trail was a little weird. Delicious though.

Jellyfish at a Philadelphia Korean restaurant was about as weird as I ever got.
I prefer my offal to be discrete and unidentifiable - sausages, haggis, scrapple etc.

It was raw on a platter with other fruits of the sea. Barbcue was set into table, so one cooks one's food.
Maybe I overcooked it but it was reminiscent of an eraser, the light grey kind.

Two and a half years ago. Visiting the Moi tribe of Indonesia to make a video. They live in the mountains on the Indonesian side of the island of New Guinea. Only way in is by small plane, which lands on an airstrip not much larger than the plane.
They had a feast while we were there. Prepared their specialty. Possum.
Wait, it gets worse.
The possum was killed while hunting a few days before, not smoked very well, a bit moldy and maggoty. But that's still not the weirdest part.
It's baked in a big pit with lots of jungle veggies. And the veggies are flavored with ... get ready ... with what they squeeze out of the possum intestines.
Yes, possum poop.
Yes, it's as bad as it sounds.

I've had jellyfish. Not much flavour at all, really. Here in Japan they throw it into Chinese-style salads, but I think it's mainly just to provide texture.
I've also noticed that the bulk of the posts in this thread (including my own) deal with some kind of animal or meat... But here's a few to mess with your head.
This will probably be unsurprising to anyone from the South-West US, but has anyone ever had corn smut? In Mexico it's sold as a delicacy called: huitlacoche... Just the LOOK of it is extremely disturbing and off-putting.
And one thing I've always wanted to try, being a coffee lover, is kopi luwak (affectionately known as civet-s**t coffee) Raw coffee berries are fed to a specific breed of civet, allowed to pass through its digestive system, then harvested and roasted. My local specialty coffee shop sells vacuum-packed bags of the stuff, but at $50 for a 50g bag, it's STEEP!

Okay, that article KILLED me with laughter.
I've had Corn Fungus Soup, and have seen pix of it "fresh" but had NO idea it looked like THAT when tinned.
My favorite jellyfish dish is: Sesame Jellyfish or Jellyfish Appetizer.
Boiled jelly served cold w/a marinade of light soy, sesame oil, a dash of rice wine, and toasted sesame seeds (and ideally ground chilis)

I've had dog a couple times (here in the states) and liked it. Since I am a living historian and a avid hunter and outdoorsman I've had all the usual wild game: coon, opossum, squirrel, wild turkey, elk, buffalo, white tail deer, mule deer, bear, beaver, crawdads, turtle, rattlesnake, frog legs. Growing up in a farming community and around farms it was nothing to have mountain oysters. Wild plants wise: Plantain, dandelion, wild garlic, chickory coffee, wild persimmons, wild grapes, poke weed (Very poisonous so unless you were taught how to prepare it properly by a grey hair I suggest ya find someone that knows how to prepare it correctly), cattail, pine needle tea.
As a few people have said, its all perception. Now I cant stand oysters cuz to me they look like snot on a half shell and i would rather eat a tire off my truck than an octypus or squid.
