I don't know who made my bonnets but I've had them for 20 years and they're good as new. I've not heard of people wearing out their bonnets frequently Mackie or otherwise...Have you?

I've never heard of people wearing out their bonnets, but I have heard of people wearing out their hats.
It seems a bonnet is a better investment

I have an odd position on this. I wear Balmorals a lot in cold weather. I have several and they are my favourite winter hat. They are warm, fold easily into a pocket when indoors and have to my eye a nice, not too casual look, while still protecting my head. They have been my go to winter hat for over 30 years.

However, i rarely where one with a kilt. To my eye it is the hat which causes a well worn kilt from a fine gentelman's gament to a Scottish costume. I know that this is not necessarily logical or an opinion shared by many but I can't shake this feeling when I wear a Balmoral while kilted.

Nope. And actually, the more wear, the better they look in my opinion. I figure my Mackie Balmorals will look twice as good once I'm about 60 years of age.

In Australia, it's an import item. The classic T3 is about $74 US at your local outfitter.

For me it's totally dependent on the temperature/weather conditions: On a comfortable dry day it's invariably bareheaded with a kilt.

I don't always wear anything on my head when kilted, but when I do it's Dos Eq. . .I mean, um, a balmoral or older-style handknit flat bonnet.

Same here re: balmorals or other bonnets with the kilt. When NOT kilted and in cool or damp weather, though:
