To bonnet or not to bonnet, that is the question

When you're outdoors in tweed day attire are you the sort that prefers the finished, traditional look of a well formed bonnet or do you prefer the contemporary look of going bareheaded? I guess I'll add a third option here, do you prefer to wear some other type of headwear that's not typically traditionally highland? Let the polling begin!

It depends on the weather and/or what I am doing, but bareheaded would be the first option. I cannot vote, apart from "other", as there is not an option that covers my circumstance.

Jock's got it dead on... but where's the poll? (Perhaps add in a fourth option: "It depends.")

Interestingly, the vote is split at two to two, but the poll says they're tied at 66.67%...

And, if I wear a hat with Highland attire, it has thus far always been a bonnet. I am in the market for a quality Panama hat that I may pair with a kilt on especially sunny and hot days.

I voted "Other," but it real depends on a variety of factors. In general, I'm just not a hat wearer. I wear my Glen with the band and I've had a Balmoral for years that I'll wear once in awhile based on the weather or where I'm headed.

I'm with Jock on this: no hat most of the time, balmorral when it is very wet or cold and a wide-brimmed cotton hat on those rare occasions when sunburn is a possibility ... and an old tweed fore-and-aft when driving one of the open-top cars.

I usually wear a balmoral bonnet even when not kilted but sometimes go bareheaded or wear other types of hats depending on weather and circumstances. I am of the "old school" and don't wear hats of any kind indoors or while eating ("remove your hat please"). I have found that wearing a balmoral most of the time in public, kilted or not, has made "acceptance" of me when I am kilted go much more smoothly (no negative or smart **s remarks) -- usually get compliments both on hats and kilts (have several of both) and the "rest" just chalk it up to that "eccentric old Scottish (Irish?) guy."

I often go bare-headed with Highland wear. On the occasions that I do wear a hat it is my fore-and-aft (the vast majority of the time) or (on rare occasions) my flatcap.

I don't care for Balmorals or Tams that much, they're not my style. Maybe they will grow on me, maybe not! Glengarries are fine but I don't own one.

On hot, sunny days a floppy-brimmed hat suits me.

Being follically challenged, there is always something perched on my head. Whether it be balmoral, tam, Tilley or Stetson, they're all good. Depends on the occasion and my mood—kilted or non-kilted.
