    I'd like to say it's because they've invented kilts, but have a nasty suspicion that it's to do with tools and the consequent ability to commit mass atrocities. Having said that there are many animals who can navigate thousands of miles to a particular place successfully when we can wind up getting lost using a satnav withiin a 100 miles of home.
