With cut steel buckles they look alright with highland attire. That said it should be pointed out that cut steel buckles are technically only worn to court; at all other times silk grosgrain bows (as in the photograph) are worn.
When ever I go to court I wear a suit and tie with but I've only ever been on the jury or as a witness. I'm not sure what I would do if I were the accused. Perhaps it would depend on how guilty I am and how much I think they know! Final blaze of glory in full fig shouting: "You'll never take my freedom ya baz" at the beak as the screws lead me down...

And he leaves them all about,
Until up comes the Regiment and kicks the 'Eathen out.

Well, for me (and myself only...) all these look pretty Nancy and I don't care for them. I wear wing tips when dressed, and don't have a need for a PC and fancier footwear than that. Those monk-strap shoes are interesting though. might have to look into those.

The 'Mary Jane' style of buckle shoe was popular in the Victorian era, but I am afraid it is just too 'girly' for my liking. This is what I wear as formal footwear - the Glenfinnan shoe from Mackenzie Frain in Scotland, with a higher tongue than usual and slightly higher, shaped heels:
Take care,
Ham.
I'm with Hamish on this one. A pair of those Glenfinnan shoes have on my wish list for a while now.
