Ted,
Perhaps you should try colonial reenacting. They wear knee breeches on a regular basis - and I can attest that they are quite comfortable. In fact, I'm looking forward to attending a 5 day event this time next month where I will be attired in knee breeches every day (except if I decide to wear a great kilt instead) - and not think twice about it.

And I happen know that down in Ted's neck of the woods there are Spanish Colonial reenactors, all wearing said knee breeches

I suppose that is an option again. I did have a very short time with the reenacting folk just before I joined the forum. Also, I do have the colonial/George Washington length hair, and wear it tied back as they might.
Still, I think a non- reenacting, and a bit modern, style for knee breeches et al, would be nice.

JOCK IS WEARING A FLAT CAP!
I gotta bookmark that picture for future blackmail reference.
For he who was asking about "plus fours", as described above they are knee pants that extend to the knees plus four inches, plus twos are then plus two inches, and straight knee breeches are called, just for you New Yorkers, Knickerbockers, or Knickers for short.
Love ya Jock. You got class.

Just for the record, I stopped wearing flat caps, all together, back at the end of 08, as best as I can remember.

There's a photo of my Granddad Gow taken in the early 1930's at his tied-house at Newhouse nr Clachan, Kintyre when he was game-keeper for the Pollocks at Ronachan "Big House".
In the photo, he’s wearing the thick woollen knee-socks with turn-down tops, but instead of “dung-hampers”, he’s wearing tailored knee-breeches with lace-up bottoms , similar to what Doughboys wore in WW1.
I think these breeches were reasonably popular in the US, UK and Europe during that period. I also seem to recall a 1920's/30's photo of Adolf Hitler wearing a pair with civilian attire.

Calm down Jeff! I have always said that I wear flat caps, BUT NOT WHEN I AM WEARING THE KILT. No chance of any blackmail opportunities there ,I am afraid.LOL
