As far as I know the other speeches are not assigned, as far as I know we have
Scout piping in the Haggis, and hopefully a song or two sometime after,
Captain the Reverend Donald Gordon Glennie for the Address to a Haggis
Myself for the Immortal Memory
so we at least would need
the Toast to the lasses and the response
Below is a short description of each
The Toast to the Lassies
This was originally a short speech given by a male guest in thanks to those women who had prepared the meal. However nowadays it is much more wide ranging, and generally covers the male speaker's view on women. It is normally amusing but should never be offensive, particularly bearing in mind that it will be followed by a reply from the "Lasses" concerned. Please note that the ladies are referred to as "lasses" and not "lassies", the latter being the plural of a famous canine.
The men drink a toast to the women's health.
the Reply to the toast to the lasses
This is occasionally (and humorously) called the 'Toast to the Laddies', and like the previous toast it is generally quite wide ranging nowadays. In it a female guest will give her views on men and reply to any specific points raised by the previous speaker. Like the previous speech this should be amusing but not offensive. Quite often the speakers giving this toast and the previous one will collaborate so that the two toasts complement each other.
The women drink a toast to the men's health.
As for the Twa Lands I'm not sure that we need to do it however if someone is willing to that would be great. For the other readings I think it would be wonderful if everyone just brought one poem to read and it does not have to be Tam o' Shanter it can be a short piece.

I think it would be wonderful if Peter did the Toast to the Lassies and Sandy did the response. So what do you say Pete, Sandy?
One other thing I will try to get in touch with the Rev. regarding the menu that the Scottish Rite is doing so that I put together the program/menu and have them printed up.

I am up for the Twa Lands, or a toast... whatever you need, my friend! If neither are needed, another reading would be fine.
"Durum Patientia Frango" (By patience I break what is hard) Clan Muir Muir motto
"Do well, and let them say - Gordon!"
"I don't care to belong to a club that accepts people like me as members" My hero, Groucho Marx

I was considering The Twa Dogs, and/or My Heart's In The Highlands.
Perhaps Grant could do To A Louse? Or The Henpecked Husband?

Well Pete has agreed to do the Toast to the Lassies, and I am trying to get his lovely wife Sandie to do the response.
Thanks Gary, My Heart is in the Highlands is one of my favourites. If anyone needs help with any poems or suggestions let me know.

"Please note that the ladies are referred to as "lasses" and not "lassies", the latter being the plural of a famous canine." btw... all "Lassies" in the TV show and in the movies, have been laddies iow... "dogs"/male dogs.
Pardon me for my Scottish/Canadian upbringing, but a lassie (lass), is a Scottish term for a woman/female, and a laddie (lad), is the term for a man/male. The dog and TV show were named after the terms lassie and laddie were in use.
I doubt that this site would be wrong:

"Toast To The Lassies
A traditional Burns Night ritual, this toast should be a light-hearted lampoon of the lassies' (few) shortcomings. Illustrations from Burns, or from first hand knowledge of the subject, may be used. Warning: Please be tactful! It's funny, but I've noticed that even the mildest, vaguest, allusions to the faults of women, in even the most general sort of way, may be misconstrued as a viscious personal attack!
Reply From The Lassies
Always delivered with grace, charm and wit, this savaging of the lads' crude dispositions and social inferiority is always accepted with good humor by the menfolk present."
For the twa lands, the oration ties the two countries, Canada and Scotland, together with similarities. Remember, many of our world inventions, were invented by Scotsmen. On the Plains of Abraham, many a Scottish highlander, fought for...France, against the British. ;)
I need to purchase and break in a couple of new chanter reeds. All but one of mine are "toast".
Merry Christmas to all and a very Happy, Healthy and Safe New Year!
