April 2007 at a restaurant in the Orlean's Casino in Vegas. Our waitress was a nice, middle-aged Korean lady who would glance at me with a puzzled look on her face while seating us and taking our orders. She finally got up the nerve to ask..."Ummmm? Cheerleader??"

My answer to questions about my ethnicity tend to be about as mixed and varied as my ethnicity (I'm Welsh, Scottish and Irish in unknown proportions). A lady looked at my kilt and asked "Are you Scottish?" I was feeling full of song that day, so I said, "No, Welsh." She snapped "The Welsh don't wear kilts!" I looked down, and with sudden shock and surprise said "You're right! I'm naked!", and walked away.

At last evening's fund raising dinner, a young (40ish) lady came up to me, and said: "I'm a Sinclair, and I can't get my husband to even consider wearing a kilt. Maybe this will help change his mind."
Also received several compliments about being the sharpest dressed man present.

In Gatlinburg, Tennessee today, four comments on Father's Day. First, our waiter said, "nice kilt". I said thank you, he replied, "I've worn a kilt before", but he didn't say when or where and continued about doing his job with several tables and couldn't continue our conversation. As I walked back to the rest room before leaving, I spoke to our waiter as he was at the soft drink station. He had worn a kilt while in the Boy Scouts. I suggested he start with a casual kilt.
Second, after riding the cable car up the mountain to Ober Gatlinburg, I heard, "nice kilt" coming from below. I looked down from the upper level as I was walking along the ice skating rink. A young girl, smiled and waved.
Third, after the cable car ride back down to Gatlinburg, we stopped to listen to a 5-piece string Bluegrass band. After one of the songs, the leader looked in my direction and announced to the crowd, "We've got a guy in a kilt over here, where are you from, are you Irish or Scottish?" I said, "A wee bit Scottish."
Fourth, as we were getting on the free Parkway Trolley for a ride back up toward where our car was parked, the driver said he had seen me earlier walking on the Parkway and wanted to know about my kilt. I said, it's a special weave (Batleys) of Maple Leaf. He said he's a (I didn't catch the clan) so his kilt has a lot of green in it.
This was the most direct comments I've had on one day.

On a recent kilted outing to an outdoor craft fair, I got a few looks and nods. There was a large food tent with tables and chairs and a chap playing guitar and singing. He finished his song just after I walked in and he announced, "Ladies and Gentlemen, we have our first kilt sighting of the day!" I looked around to make sure he was talking about me. Then he took a detour from his set list and played Almost Like Being In Love from Brigadoon (In honor of my kilt.)

Why so dressed up?
after church and my first appearance in church in a kilt, I was asked why i was so dressed up? I simply said that I normally always wear a tie to church. I wore a sport coat that matched my new self made olive green box pleated kilt with hose, flashes a white shirt and complimentary tie. Our church is somewhat relaxed and to my surprise, I was the Only person in service that day with a tie on...let alone a kilt!

After Sunday service, the substitute pastor came up to me and complimented me on my kilt (SWK Black Stewart). I can't remember her name but she said her Clan was a sept of MacAlpin. I thanked her and told her that I wear a kilt to service every Sunday.

While walking to the store yesterday, a lady was getting out of her car and just said you look so, so, so.........natural.

I've been waiting to post here. O.K. The first day I wore my home made woodland camaflage kilt I had a cute blonde girl in her twenties ask to take a picture with me, and a guy at Starbucks say "Cool kilt". The day I got my Pride of Scotland a girl cashier said "Oh, Cool!" and told me that the singer in a group called Korn wears a kilt.
Now the reason I waited to post: I was cooling off from a bad experiance! I was sitting on the bench at Walmart waiting for my wife when some woman in shorts told her daughter to move quickly past me like she thought I was a pervert because of the kilt. I was speechless!!! I let her get away. But she didn't ask me any questions, just made her mind up and kept walking. I'm going to tell you I was very angery and hurt. What a "B"!!!
