Kilted Friday at School
Comrades,
I was inspired by this thread and I started a Kilted Friday at the high school where I teach Earth Science. I'm new to the kilt world as of June so I only have a few used Utilikilts and two UT Kilts. There is another teacher who owns a kilt but he's too shy and my department head is of Scottish extraction (not that it matters) and I have encouraged him to find a kilt that suits him.
I have received mostly positive attention from teachers and students and my students usually leave school on Thursday saying that they're looking forward to Kilted Friday. So far, everyone who has said anything instantly recognizes it as a kilt. Students and teachers high-five me from time to time or give me a thumbs-up. So far, so good ...
All the best,
Jonathan

Further, I had a senior female student (one of the popular crowd ... which I was never a part of when I was her age) say to me as she came into class on Friday, "Way to go, Mr Kennedy, it takes a lot of guys and self-confidence to do what you're doing. That's great!"
Best,
J

My Kilted Friday Adventure last week took me to my 8 year old niece's school to drop off some sweets for a bake sale the next day.
As I always do in a kilt, I walked in confidently. There were perhaps a few dozen people in the halls scurrying about, decorating. I got a lot of smiles and a few nice compliments!

Kilted Saturday
I didn't kilt up on Friday, but Saturday I went to the Tucson Comic Con where I wore some videogame-styled armor and my US Army tartan kilt. Kilts don't get much attention at cons, but a couple of folks said it looked nice, one guy thanked me for my service, and a guy dressed as Loki said he really liked the color combo.

Isn't it wonderful when people recognise your tartan? I've been wearing my McGregor scarf out and about and nobody's recognised it yet despite it being one of the more well-known tartans.

Kilted Tuesday; met with a coworker mid-day to give him a laptop power adaptor. Had lunch at the Dublin Crossing Irish Pub in Surrey BC. We noted that some of the wait-staff were in tartan mini-kilts (looked like Black Stewart.) I was in my Ancient Campbell and Harris Tweed jacket.
Good food, but even better, when the bill came I was told that the manager had provided my Guinness 'on the house' because of my kilt! ![Cool](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_cool.gif)
(No, I don't believe this is standard policy, just a very nice discretionary 'one-off', which I appreciated. )

It's the third time that's happened.
The first time time was at the AZ RenFaire; the greeter at the gate said, "If your tartan is what I think it is then I thank for your service to the Crown."
Second time was at the commissary; the checker recognized the tartan and said I have nice legs. ![Very Happy](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
Third time was at the Con. A fellow of indeterminate age pointed and said, "Army?"
