Indeed, they're large and they're expensive. I would not wear my nicest sporran with a t-shirt, even if it's okay. I reserve my full mask sporran for special events, both day and night. I'd like to keep it nice for many years to come. I wear a simple black leather sporran for casual events. I would wear my fox with a tweed jacket for a semi-formal engagement or with my Prince Charlie for a formal engagement.

I believe that once a full mask sporran becomes much larger than an ordinary sporran it starts to overwhelm the rest of one's outfit.

Some smashing sporrans shown in all these postings, BUT Riverkilt of Arizona please note:- Ron, if you are going to show pics of yourself, please stay indoors. I can NEVER concentrate on what you are wearing because of that stunning scenery.
What a beautiful place you live in....

    Face sporran

Tony, I thought when I saw this pic, I had seen a sporran identical to this (or very cose) before, I couldn't think where, then it dawned on me - it was on this lovely young lady from Florida, pictured with her Mum at Inverness Highland games this year.
I was intrigued by her sporran then, but never got a chance to ask her about it in depth then.
I spotted her again at the Gathering in Edinburgh, but again never got a chance to ask her about it.
Perhaps you could let me know more about them - maker etc...

    Cantles on sporran

This picture shows that not a lot has changed in cantle design over the centuries - in fact sporran design itself has changed little since these days as can be seen from the following picture, interestingly, we argue that this design is for 'formal' occasions, these soldiers wore it into battle.
This sporran can be seen in Brechin Town House Museum, it was owned and worn at Culloden by David Mitchell of Lethnot, a sergeant in the Jacobite Army - Although the Museum calls it the 'Rebel' Army, a term I would disagree with, however, I am sure others would disagree with me - after all, one mans War of Independence is another mans Revolution - am I not right my American Cousins?LoL...

How right you are, Cuz! Didn't The Crown consider that American colonial uprising a civil war at its inception? I've actually had that debate elsewhere about these definitions and will leave that political discussion off this apolitical board!

Thanks for sharing this photo. Ahh, for the days of warfare where things were so much more glittery! Unfortunately, I think the blood ran just as red.

That said, I find my L@M Highland leather sporran to go well with everything I do from casual to formal. Most people are fascinated enough by the design they're not too concerned with it being proper for the occasion anyways

I am mesmerized by this sporran. I really like it.

These are mine in order of acquisition:

A basic Black Leather, three tassle, day sporran. Bought it when I bought my first kilt. Cost about £15

Stillwater nylon cargo sporran. Fantastic piece of kit. Most versatile sporran I own. Loads of room and nicely organised.
I really want another in Brown leather. Cost about $25US (£15) and about the same again in postage to UK

Black Rabbit dress sporran. Very cheaply manufactured cantle. Got this thrown in free with a jacket I bought on ebay.
    £zip... unfortunately it shows.

Brown Leather jacobite style day sporran. Quite a simple design and lots of room. I like this one alot. Cost about £20

Grey Rabbit dress sporran. Better made than the black one and bought to use as an alternative to it.
    Another ebay bargin... £16

Black leather and brown cowhide semi-dress sporran with drop pin closure. The tassles can be easily removed to make it
a nice simple day sporran. Cost about £20

    Finally:

Brown leather sporran with drop pin closure and braided detail. Good solidly made day sporran. Love this one. about £20

This is an awesome sporran! If you should ever find out where she acquired it, I would like to know.

I've tried Googling "green man" + "sporran" with no luck. Where might I find one?
