I'd love to meet many of you in person...I think we would all have a grand time!

    Cheers Jim,
    Kyle,
Not that any of these are really 'prominent' Games, but from the Cincy area, you're just an hour north (up I-71) of the Kentucky Scottish Weekend at General Butler State Park in Carrollton, KY. This year it's May 14. You're about 3-4 hours (depending on your preferred route) from the Glasgow (KY) Highland Games at Barren River State Park. This year it's June 2-5, with the main events on June 4. There's also the Central Kentucky Highland Games in Eminence, KY - dates TBD, probably in September. (I happen to be involved one way or another with all three of these Games). GHG is the largest of the three, in terms of attendance. The CKHG just had its' second season this past fall.

Per the X-Marks map, it looks like you're also just a couple of hours away from the Ft. Wayne Highland Games. I know there's also the Columbus Indiana Games, and there are 2-3 events in Ohio.

    David,

Thanks for your detailed reply, it is much appreciated indeed. Who made your tweed jacket and waistcoat if you do not mind me asking? Is there a particular name for the style of tweed - I have perused the USA Kilts website and have seen the various colours and styles of tweeds available for a day wear jacket and waistcoat - very similar to what Matt Newsome offers at the Scottish Tartans Museum Gift Shop. Also, what size day jacket do you prefer when ordering off the peg? Apologies for all the questions, just curious my friend.

    Kind regards,

    Auld Crabbits Rendezvous

    Kyle--

Harden of Cowdenknows, Way of Plean, Squire of Rubislaw, and Yours Truly are planning to rendezvous with Sanford MacLean at this year's Glasgow, Kentucky, games. I'm hoping David Pope, Cajun Scot, and the other Auld Crabbits will likewise be able to join us. Drop me an email for more details.

Be aware, though, that the names above aren't universal amongst makers.

For example the jacket on the left above is called "Braemar" by House Of Edgar, or at least it was when I worked at a Highland Outfitter who carried House Of Edgar jackets. I don't remember what they called the other styles.

But usually on these jackets there's a notch or break between the front edge and the flaps, as here:

Usually these jackets seem to be tailored to stay open at the bottom, but here it's worn buttoned:

I've not yet found out what this style of jacket was called in the old days. One early 20th century catalogue I have mentions "celtic" jackets but with no illustration. The closest modern jacket is the "regulation doublet", simply called "doublet" in my early catalogues. But the modern regulation doublet has lapels like a Prince Charlie.

I'll be there hosting the tent for Clan Barclay. We will be holding our AGM there this year.

I'm planning to be there at Glasgow (KY) as well. I'll be back in the Pipe & Drum area all day Saturday, since I help run the competition and pipe with the Louisville Pipe Band. Drop in and say hello! (Best time is early on in the day, say 10 AM, or after the competition is done - about 4:30 or 5 PM.)

    Scott,

I sent you a private message, but yes, my lovely wife and I shall be in attendance at the Glasgow, KY games! I can't wait to meet you and everyone else from XMTS that will be there! I've been perusing the official website of the Glsgow games and I must say, it appears to be a rather top-notch event! We are very much looking forward to being there for the first time. Thank you for letting me know my friend.

    Yours aye,
