Welsh Tartan Kilts
Thanks to whomever (sorry forgot) brought the www.welsh-tartan.com site to the board.
Browsing there I've added to my wish list. Found tartans for two of my three Welsh lines, Bowen(Owen), and Vaughan.
Both tartans are beautiful, soft colors that remind me of Scot hunting tartans or even MARPATs and CADPATS in a way.
They have a fall look to them. Maybe by next fall I'll have one
Worth a look if you've not investigated yet. They have tartans for a couple dozen Welsh families.

Ron,
I think that you should add "Jones" to your list.

Ron,
I've got Llewellyns on my mother's side of the family. I thought about getting a Welsh cilt a while ago, and found another company here in the US that makes/sells Welsh cilts. I'm not sure about quality, quickness, etc...but it could save you some serious money.

Derek has a really nice Welsh cilt and so does Chris, who occasionally pops in here.
Here's Derek's album with pictures of his great wonderful cilt...

"Cilt". That's an new one on me. Is that the Welsh way of spelling kilt? Live and learn. - Alan

My wife's last name is Watkins. That's the only place I've seen the Watkins tartan.
The fabric is pricey, though!

Ron ... I can thoroughly recommend a Welsh Family Tartan Cilt 14oz 8yds. The quality and craftmanship is excellent .. unfortunately though they are not cheap. I have had mine now for nearly two years and have worn it more or less daily .. mostly lounging around the house .. but of more recent months wearing it out and about more locally and further afield as an everyday male garment... and thats all down to you guys on this forum who give fantastic support. Hamish has seen my cilt now twice so I'm sure he will give an honest opinion of it. I have never had it dry cleaned or the pleats pressed as of yet and it still looks in mint condition to me. Again I can only recommend them.
Long .. cilt is welsh for kilt.
Derek.

Thanks for the stateside Welsh Kilt link Rufus.
Their Owen/Bowen tartan looks different than the Welsh outfit...wondering if these are official family tartans or something made up by the mill...?
The stateside link doesn't have the Vaughan that the Welsh house does...and neither had my Welsh Franklyn tartan. May not be one for that family.
Amazing how my list of kiltmakers is growing!! and my wish list!! Inversly proportional to my ability to buy them.

Ron, I found another link for a stateside Welsh cilt provider.

She doesn't have the tartans you're looking for right now on her website, but she may actually have them.
I also remember Chris saying he got a Welsh National tartan cilt from Hector Russell. At least I'm pretty sure it was them. Maybe he'll bop in to correct me. *hint hint*
Also, I remember hearing somewhere that the Welsh Tartan Centre was the only place producing Welsh tartans, but I'm not sure if that's true. Worth checking out. The Welsh Tartan Centre has more tarans than they list. I guess they make new ones every now and then. It's worth emailing them to see if they have the Franklyn's have a tartan yet.
I'm surprised Murphy (or used to be Murphy) hasn't jumped all over this thread yet.

I'll go into the shop next time I'm in town and do some checking for you. Would anyone else like anything checked out while I'm there.

Welsh tartans...
Their Owen/Bowen tartan looks different than the Welsh outfit...wondering if these are official family tartans or something made up by the mill...?
I seem to remember reading that these were tartans that were created for the Welsh family names, similar to the Irish county tartans that were devised back in the early 1990's.
Cheers,
T.
