Advice on hose color

Here is a picture of my kilt. I am looking to buy some hose. What would be some acceptable colors to match?

I would like to stay away from black or white. I like the look of off white or oatmeal colored hose, but maybe a darker color would match better, like a green that matches the color in the kilt.

I would go with lovat Green. Darker colour Hose,can make you look bottom heavy.

I would think that either the Lovat green or the bottle green would look good (with red flashes of course). The best bet would be to take your kilt with you when you buy the hose, as it will be easier to see what goes well with the kilt. Off-white is usually a safe bet for a single or first pair of kilt hose.

Having said that, I should add that I often wear hose that go with the rest of the outfit, rather than just the kilt. Right now I have off-white, dark blue, black, bottle green, and lovat green hose. some go well with some kilts and some don't go at all.

What tartan is that by the way?

A Lovat or Navy Blue coloured pair would work as well, although the Oatmeal-coloured also would work and would provide a nice contrast.

Lovat green or dark green would also work. The Lighter colours (Lovat) are usually more appropriate for day wear, whilst the darker colours are usually seen with formal or evening attire, although that's not set in stone, so to speak.

It is a nice tartan, and it's familiar to me, but I'm not quite getting it. It almost looks like the Campbell of Cawdor or Argyll District tartan...

I'd go with a dark green for just daily wear and use the off white for other occasions ..They(The off white) get dirty when Hiking so don't use them for that

OK. It seems like a green color is getting the most votes. Now what is the difference in the greens? Sorry if I'm asking too many questions.

Next, where is a good place to buy such hose? Cost is an issue.

The kilt itself. Phil told me it is a Campbell. That's about all I know. It's a "Get Shirty" kilt, made of 100% acrylic. Boy is it a magnet for my dog's stray hairs

Yup... it's Campbell of Cawdor, one of my favorite tartans.

As for the kilt hose that the guys have mentioned, you can ring-up any of about 10,000 shops that sell Celtic items and (chances are 99%) that they have these from Gaelic Themes. Anything more than $20 and you need to look further. That's the maximum that you should pay for them.

You'll find them in two greens, two blues, a couple off-whites, and more. IF you're lucky (since Gaelic Themes also supplies them) you can also get the flashes at the same time. They have red, blue, green, black, etc.

Ah-hah! I thought that was a Campbell of Cawdor!! :mrgreen: I'm seriously considering that tartan for the next kilt, because my great-great grandmother was from Argyll.

Lovat green is a sage green, whilst bottle green is a darker green, almost a forest green really.

One place I would recommend (shameless plug for Matt) is the Scottish Tartans Museum, because the purchase would help such a worthy cause:

A little bit on the Campbell of Cawdor tartan:

Oringially it was a military tartan, as the Argyll militia (the forerunners of the modern Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders) were kitted out in it at the turn of the 19th century. Nowawadays it is associated with the Cawdor branch of the Clan Campbell.

Argyll is Campbell country, and the tartan became associated with the Argyle (the old spelling that is on my grandmother's grave in Iowa) or Argyllshire.

Todd, thanks for the info on the tartan. Best to know what you're wearing right?

The new avitar is a few pictures from Antarctica and a kilted one. Hopefully I'll add some more kilt pictures to the mix as time goes by.

So you think the lovat green will go good with that kilt? I hope so, I too like that color.
