    Just finished

New here. I just finished making my first traditional kilt last night. I got my material from the Scottish Tartan Museum and used the instructions from Art of Kiltmaking.

So far I am very pleased with the results. All of the women that have seen it have complemented my work. I do not know if I will attempt another one yet. I want a Mcleod of Harris and a McGregor (dad wants one as well). Given the cost of materials and the time involved I may purchase my next one.

I went to the local Burns Nicht but did not have the kilt ready in time. I will be wearing it next year.

    Doc,

    A Hearty Welcome to ya!
My best friend made his kilt and that was
what started me on my quest to be kilted.
Post some potos so we can see your craftsmanship.
Good to have you among us.

    Doc,

    WELCOME

I admire your desire (read time) in making your kilt. It sounds wonderful, and what great sources you have used to accomplish it.

Looking forward to hearing your kilted stories and questions.

    Again welcome!!

I have posted my pics of the kilt at
http://photos.yahoo.com/docwalke I am hoping that I have made them public correctly.

Also you can see pics of me proposing a couple weeks ago. If you take a look, the ring is a Claddagh. I am hoping to talk her into a Scots wedding.

All right, Doc! Going for the Loud MacLeod!

That's (honestly) one of my favorite kilts in the collection. If I was an ardent fan of any Pittsburgh teams or the Boston Bruins, I would get a lot more use out of it. For now, it matches a few of my kilt t-shirts.

    Welcome aboard.

Welcome Doc, and congratulations! I'm assuming from the smiles that the answer was an unqualified yes. And making your own kilt to boot, very impressive! I've thought about trying but I have so many unfinnished projects around the house I'm afraid to add another, several of the others here have though so you're in good company.

It is very time consuming but it was one of those things that I had to set a goal and do it.

Now I need to figure out how to carry a pistol wearing a kilt. I have searched around and see that the neokilt has an option. But, for now I will be wearing my traditional. I have a rabbit hair sporran that I think it will fit in. I am open to suggestions.

Actually she did not respond for the first few minutes. My proposal came in the form of a Geocache hunt. She had no idea what I was up to and walked the coordinates to "Marry Me" in 100 foot tall letters in a field. The GPS was tracking her movements and at then end she could read what it said. Instead of saying yes she was asking how I did it and how long it took.

I am going to get a UK to wear geocaching in the future.
