    Solid kilts

So, I seem to have the comprehension of matching colours and accesories with tartan kilts... but am a little shaky as to what y'all think about it when it comes to solid coloured kilts. And seeing as I don't know how soon I'm going to be diving into tartans, I figured I may as well ask.

Actually I think it gets easier. Look at the solid color kilt as you would a pair of...I can't say it here but you know what I mean...

I went out in a Buzz Kidder khaki that I recently got from Matt with a blue, button down, short sleeved shirt, brown boots and rolled down oatmeal hose. Business casual if you will. Used a brown sporran on hanger straps and the whole outfit came together and looked great. On the flip side, I have worn plaid shirts with a solid black kilt and boots.

Solid color kilts open up a range of shirts, jackets and other accesories that I would not wear with a tartan kilt. If you haven't already, check out Ron's thread on Aloha shirts.

I think tartan shirts look great with solid color kilts. Sort of a reverse of the traditional tartan kilt with a plain shirt.

A Red Stewart looks great with a solid black kilt.

Hard to find tartan shirts, but if you got 'em they're the best.

I'm a Pendleton vest junkie too. I like the look of a Pendleton vest with a white shirt (not dress shirt, just white) and a solid color kilt.

For solid leather kilts though I've found that a plain or off white shirt looks best, lets the leather look lead the way.

Sweaters look good in cold weather, tie dye pattern tshirts in warm weather...even just printed tshirts with a Scot or kilt theme.

Check Ham's website too, lots of great ideas. He's the master.

And there are some pics in this grasshopper's gallery.
