    Interesting staghorn sgain dubh.....

McLeods Scottish Shop in Stratford, Ontario has a few "one-of" staghorn sgain dubhs for sale. I've made a quick pencil sketch of one of them.

I've never seen one like this before. - $60.00 cdn.

Just in case someone in the group might be interested.

    cheers,
    blu

The sketch is in my gallery.

    Blu , Nice Sgian Dhu

Heres an early atempt which Sten Rune made for me. It would be leathal in a knee in the groin sitiation

We settled for the other design in my gallery instead. These knives look nice but tend to catch in things. ....If you know what I mean

    David...

That is a fabulous looking sgain dubh. A bit fancier than the one I saw. It strikes me that either one would look particularly good with a great kilt.

BTW, what is the tartan in the background of the photo? Looks almost like MacAlpine without the yellow stripe.

    Cheers,
    blu

    Blu,

I am afraid that one does look rather too hazzardous for me ever to want tucked into my hose!

The obvious advantage in having one of that design is that, with a length of elastic attached, it could double as a catapult!!

Seems either would be for "dress up" only.

One would certainly have to be prepared for many questions and requests to see it.

Wonder if there's ever been a recorded incident of someone using a knife in their sock to successfully defend themselves?

Yes, I know that's not the point. But it is why I don't fiddle with a sock knife....

I think Riverkilt nailed this one. The maker (from somewhere in Ontario I believe) collects naturally dropped antler and uses what he has available. No two are exactly alike. I would agree that it probably isn't terribly practical. Perhaps more of interest to a collector or somebody after something quite out of the ordinary. It certainly is eye catching. BTW, I bought this one out of the group....

Hey Blu, Nice choice. If you're gonna do it that's a good looking one to have. I like that kind of look at sock top better than the jewels or medallions. But that's just me.
