    You didn't wear your kilt

Today we had a retirement luncheon for a friend. As I was talking to another friend, Ryan, he said "You and Russ didn't wear your kilts!"

Russ is half-Irish and half-Scot. Ryan knows we both have kilts. That lead to further discussion.

I had driven directly from work. Kilts aren't an option at work due to safety reasons, so I wasn't kilted. Russ said he too had thought about it, but decided not to go home to change.

Isn't that a switch! I got comments for not wearing a kilt!

Funny how that works. Same thing happened to me the other day. My sister came by my house and I was wearing jeans (my kilt was in the wash), she looked at me funny saying "you look weird without your kilt". And she was the one who tormented me for getting on in the first place. Oh well.

As the voice of gloom I have to share my only "without your kilt" xperience.

During a big snowstorm I had on my Carhartt bibs that I keep for just such occasions (I'm a groundskeeper).

A co worker looked me up and down and with a relieved smile said "Glad to see you stopped wearing the skirt thing!"

He sighed disappointedly when told it was only temporary.

A little over a month ago, my wife was in charge of an event at work. She asked that I not wear a kilt (a rare occurance, but it does happen). While there I was asked by three different people, "Where's the kilt."

I was at the grocery store this last weekend and my checker (whom I didn't actually recognize) asked where the kilt was.

Same thing happed at the bank and the liquor store. I'm not sure it's a good thing that the woman at the liquor store knows me by sight. I don't think I'll mention that to the wife.

I guess I'll have to stop washing my kilts in one load.

Same thing at choir last Thursday. Wore a pair of jeans and the choir leader made hand signals across the room to ask me what happened to the kilt. My mother also mentioned it, saying it was weird not seeing my knees and bare lower legs.
