Kilt experience with Linda Clifford?
I've been shopping for a good place to order a traditional kilt (my first), and came across a website for Linda Clifford Scottish & Irish Merchant, located in Bethel, Maine. I'm wondering if anyone on the forum has ordered a kilt from them and if so, if you have any comments, good or bad.
I'm also trying to figure out if it would be better to go with a medium weight fabric (13 oz.) or the heavier 16 oz. fabric. Any thoughts on that one?
Thanks.

Linda Clifford has a good reputation, so I think you'd be fine ordering from her. It's a well-established business, definitely not a fly-by-night!
Either 13 oz. or 16 oz. tartan is good for a kilt -- but I don't recommend anything lighter. I always advise my customers to go for the heavier weight (16 oz.) if they want the best quality kilt. It will wear and 'swing' a bit better, and there's usually only a relatively little difference in price, unless you're getting a rare tartan. A well-made 16 oz. kilt is a real heirloom item, and worth the investment!

our customers experience with Linda Clifford
Hello,
We can only relate to you an experience by one of our customers. They purchased a kilt kit from Linda Clifford. The cost was $405.00. After the customer had cut the material and then realized how poor the instructions provided were, she contacted Linda Clifford. She said that the Linda Clifford Company was not only unsympathetic, but just plain rude, and would not help her in any way. The buyer should have done what you are doing, and done a little homework. However the Linda Clifford Company should have been at least helpful. The fact that you can buy a well made 8 yard kilt for $495.00 makes the idea of the kilt kit impractical. Most people assume that they are saving a great deal of money by making it themselves. We took the customers cut material in on trade and worked with her to get her son a kilt.

For some info on the kilt weight decision, I started a thread on that topic some time ago. Perhaps it could off some help:
