Lacin' o' the Ghillies
I finally broke down and bought a pair of ghillie broughs, but because of the size of my calves the laces want to bunch at my ankles. I need a better solution than "three steps and tug". Anybody have a suggestion?

Well, that video is nice but ghillie laces would never stay up on my calves if I tied mine like that!! The model in the video has slim legs, that might make the difference, I dunno....I have to keep the laces much lower unless I want to re-adjust them about every 20 steps . But the bow at the side is, I believe, the proper way to tie them off, though one often sees the bow at the front. There is a pic in my gallery of the way -after much experimentation and a few lost toggles- I tie mine.

S'truth! I have calves like yours, guess I'll just have to experiment. Also I'm going for an earlier style, perhaps over moggins. The video does show the laces being twisted before wrapping them up the calves, so I'll try that. If I get one I'm happy with I'll post pics.

'tis my foot, not my legs that are the problem...Can't find ghillie brogues in wide sizes...need at least a 4E, more if they got it.
Just use wingtips now...but don't think tying long laces up my leg with wingtips would look very good...

I wouldn't see why using the tying method in the video, but modified for thicker calves, by finishing the tying well below the calf would be a problem..
Personally, I don't care for the long laces up my leg... I would rather have them lower, even though, as with the video model, I have skinny legs....
Aren't there brogues that don't have super-long laces?? Isn't it the open-style top of the shoe that make them ghillie brogues, and not the laces??

I wonder how wide the selections are here:

Thanks Beer,
They do say "wider fitting" whatever that means...been my experience that if they don't come right out and give the width then they're narrow...like 2E or even D, which they consider "wide."
So, how am I gonna convince New Balance or Wolverine to make a Ghillie Brogue??
