kilt weaving looms
just read a note from a kilt rental outfit that claims "Scotland possesses the only looms capable of weaving kilt fabric that can hold these pleats" ....
really?
with the conversations regarding the proposed Xmarks tartan, i'm interested in the designing of a pattern and how that design is transferred to the loom.

:-) While it is true that the tartan cloth being woven by the woolen mills in Scotland who specifically weave the tartan to be made into kilts is the top notch stuff, I think it goes a little far beyond the realm of sanity to claim that Scotland is the only place you will find a loom capable of making cloth that will make a decent kilt.
I have a kilt made from hand woven tartan that was woven by a dear friend of mine who just happens to live here in NC and wove it on the loom in her basement studio. I mean, that is just a ridiculous claim, though I understand the intent behind it.

A fair bit of Scotlands finest tartan cloth is woven in England. Heresy, I know!!
