    Ghillie brogue laces

Does anybody else have a problem with the damned things falling down?

I'm tying them correctly, according to several websites I've consulted. I've even pulled them so tight, they hurt my leg. Still, they fall down.

Stupid question, I know. Thanks for any serious replies.

I used to just wear wingtips for nights out in the kilt, and I'm sort of sorry I bought the brogues.

Smile An answer and another question

I usually just tie a single half reef knot like when you begin to tie your normal shoes then I do the usual 6 times twist and up the leg.Tying at the side . If this isn't working ...This is silly are your socks too smooth I was thinking it may be a friction problem .I had to walk some miles the other day in a parade and only stopped the once as the knot at the bow loosened.

Good luck....While on the subject how do you thread a new pair of laces??? ever thought about this . I like to remove my lacese when cleaning my shoes. This isn't possible with my ghillies as the lace has a fancy leather end which doesn't pass though the eyelet

    Thanks for the reply.

As for your question, the laces on my brogues pass through a hole in the center of the tassle and hold it in place with a knot that is too large to fit back through the hole. By undoing the knot, I can remove the tassle. I'm sure you'd have spotted something that easy if your laces were constructed the same way, so I'm afraid I'm not much help.

    Bob,

As a Drum Major in Pipe Band I have marched miles and miles (too many to count) in my Ghillies and always had a problem with them falling down. I met a Drum Major from CT and he told me that he sprays his laces with hair spray before marching or before a competition (he even sprays the palms of his gloves so his mace won't slip). He told me not to use stickum or anything like that, just hair spray. Just spray them enough to make them a little tacky. I have never tried this because I have been lucky enough with my new laces that they don't fall down. It sounds a bit weird but he swears by it.

    Freelander,

I have laces that the tassle is actually sewn on the lace. I just snipped the threads and then like Bob said tied a knot in the lace to hold the tassle in place.

    Hope this helps.
