Almost A Kilt
I was just wondering if anybody has really looked at contemporary men's summer casual attire. Looking around at men's shorts I've noticed a few things. They are very loose and hang down around the knees. Many men wear a fanny pack on the front. The only thing separating this look from a kilt is the lack of pleats and the layer of cloth between the legs.
It seems to me that a lot of these guys are only one small step, granted an important step, from wearing a kilt, with the pack simulating a sporran.

Yep, I've noticed that, too. Sometimes, in low light conditions, I think I see someone in a kilt and it's just somebody on those low baggy things.

I am just saying out loud what everybody is actually thinking.

You don't wear "drawers..."

At work, I've noticed a number of guys who wear shorts that look most kilt-like.
I keep wondering why the devil they don't just cut ot the connection between front and rear of their shorts. After all, the crotch of the shorts is much nearer their knees than their crotches.

Three Quarter Cargo Pants!
You know what makes me laugh?
In Australia, in particular, there has been in recent years a trend for men of all ages under 60, to wear these three-quarter cargo pants.
To my mind, these are the most effeminate crossover garment since hot-pants (if you are wondering when hot pants were worn by males look at a picture of yourself, or your Dad, in shorts in the late 70's hahahaha!)
Three quarter pants on a man, no matter how many 'ammo pockets' you sew on, make an honest man look like a bad version of a drag queen J LO act. and yet, and yet, some in the hip three quarter crew dare to snigger at our kilts, the sissies.
Uill.
PS: If you ALSO happen to own a pair of three quarter pants, let's save forum space and time patching up your injured pride right here.
You're free to wear what you like, its the esssence of our kilted argument, I'm just pointing out they were 'borrowed' from our sisters, and it only took about a season to make the transgender leap! Make of it what you will, wear your pants with your underwear showing all you like, I rest my case! Cheers.

shorts
I too have been wondering about the shorts you mentioned, and think that if some big fashion house/name was to get on this bandwagon and make a hybrid between kilt and shorts and get a really well know sports star to be seen everywhere in them then first they will increase in popularity with the younger generations and also make the jump from trousers/shorts to kilt alot easier and less noticeable.
I understand that a well known highstreet shop over here in the UK tried this and called them skorts but don't know how true that is.

3/4 pants
Well, the next time you see any of these guys laughing at you while wearing theses 3/4 pants just ask them why they are wearing women's "capri" pants. Just wait for their reaction.
It is always interesting to me how so many people are ignorant of the history or evolution of what they are wearing.

There actually is a garment called a "skort" over here but it is specifically a women's garment. It's exactly what you think it might be... basically a skirt with a line of fabric in the crotch to turn it into a pair of shorts, more or less.
Marketing such an animal over here would probably get lumped in with that monstrosity.
