Into the Breach, of the courage of Men; the steadfast heart, the Iron will...

My 30th High School reunion is this coming weekend.

And I....former band kid and nerd cum laude

    ..................am going, kilted.

well, for the Friday night gathering at Mulligans' Pub, anyway. And the satruday afternoon barbecue hang-out. I'll change in to Aloha Shirt and shorts for the "Jimmy Buffet Meets Middle Age" party on Saturday Night. aloha shirts and tartan leave something to be desired.

Think my classmates from 1971-1975 are gonna be able to handle it? Maybe Katrina will get the hots, FINALLY after all these years ***LOLOL*** what will my Lady say?

    Have fun!

I skipped my 30th Reunion last year. Not enough folks I was interested in seeing enough to drive 400 miles.

I, on the other hand, often wear Hawaiian shirts with my kilt. To be honest, I've never gone outside the house like that and my daughter says I look like an Australian's nightmare (well, she doesn't know that phrase but that's what she means.)

I agree with Archangel...Aloha Shirt with a Kilt (solid color of course) is cutting edge Parrothead. Go for it!

Wear a really bright and colourful shirt to offset the black, and sandals with no socks.

A battered Panama hat ought to complete the ensemble quite well.

Back from the reunion....had a great time.

I was kilted at the Friday night pub gathering and got lots of great comments. The lady who organizsed shrieked in my ear as she hugged me "you look so HOT!" This from one of the cheerleaders that didn't know I was alive back then, but that's OK. She's the moving force behind getting these things off the ground, you gotta love her for putting in the work.

Walter the unoffical class Crazy Man and piper gave me a bear hug 'cause I was wearing it, and his lady Trudy , gave it a tug, just to see if it'd come off. A bunch of the nerdy girls that I barely remembered (I was a nerd but I was a Band nerd rather than a regular nerd) oooh- and aaah'd and one wanted to play with the tassels on my sporran, which was pretty funny. Walter hollered out that I had nice legs and two of the ladies wanted to know if I shave 'em, so I left them cop a feel of my calves. The missus took it all with good humour, mostly rolling her eyes. Several people wanted to know which tartan it was and so I had a few discussions about tartans, clans, districts and my mothers ancestry.

Saturday I went to lunch with me Best Mate, Dave, and my Lady. Dave is a violinist by profession and was in a bit of a rush between jobs. Dave was a bit surprised but grinned and paid little attention. I got a couple of "I Like your kilt" comments from folks in the restaurant. Then I changed into jeans and Hawaiin shirt for the evening barbecue. At the end of the day one of the girls that I'd tutored in reading thirty-five years ago came up to me and said that she'd never expect ME...ME, of all people, to show up in a kilt, but thought it was great.

BTW, for any that want to know, Katrina, the little wallflower Swedish girl in 1970-75 blossomed quite a few years ago and is now by far the best lookin' woman in the class. She married one of the nicest guys in the class too, and both of them look great. No hots from Katrina, but we had a great chat. She's getting very involved with her Scandinavian geneology, which was interesting. I like her, and I like Jim her husband, too.

OK this morning my lady and I took my stepmother to lunch...or rather, she took us, at her retirement community restaurant. I picked her up at the place where she's living now (a stepped care facility) and she just flipped. She'd never seen me in a kilt before. We were 20 minutes late for lunch 'cause she HAD to parade me into the central lounge and show me off to her girlfriends. I was wearing my "budget semi-formal" outfit, with my Stillwater Standard Black Watch kilt. She snagged four or five of the men that live in the place as well, two of which were members of the local Saint Andrews Society.

My Lady wore the kilt skirt I bought her (finally!) and it was a huge hit with my stepmother and the ladies from her bridge group that were having lunch in the restaurant. One woman's nephew is getting married in San Francisco next month and she says all the groomsmen, Scottish or not, are supposed to be in kilts. So we had a bit of a chat about kilts as the coming thing for men to wear. ONe of the other ladies, when a third started asking about my sporran said..."It's not polite to ask a Scotsman those impertinent questions." ...at whichhpoint I about suffocated, I was laughing so hard.

So next time I get nosy with one of ye X Mark lads, y'all just tell me "It's not polite to ask a Scotsman those impertinent questions!

All in all, a great weekend, mostly kilted. Five more years 'till the next one!
