Out of curiosity I pulled out my old college dictionary and looked up the work kilt.

Its the Webster's new Collegiate Dictionary 1961 edition, a high school graduation present. Just 44 years ago.

Kilt is defined as, "A type of short plaited petticoat  worn in the Highlands of Scotland by men; hence any similar garment."

Looking up petticoat the definitions are all about women's wear...no cross mention of men's kilts.

So, we've progressed from wearing petticoats...

Wonder what other old dictionaries say about kilts? Or if the brand new dictionaries have caught on to contemporary kilts yet?
