    Step on up!

Time to put your money where your heart is:

    https://www.redcross.org/donate/donation-form.asp

    I donated $100.00.

    The minimum is $5.00.

I'd rather volunteer my time, but I have to work (child support).

I just split the cost of a new workmans uk between the Red Cross and Salvation Army today.I wonder how much we could raise if everyone sold their pants.Maybe some of the celeberties like Graham and Hamish could put some of their underwear on E-Bay!Seriously though,we need to do all we can.A lot people have lost literaly everything they own.

I just made my contribution through Feed the Children's Hurricane Relief. My $250 will send almost a ton of food and water. I would also like to help personally, but the Red Cross is only looking for those in excellent physical shape as they need rescue workers. Also you have to be able to give at least three weeks time, and I can't get away from work that long. I'm going to see if I can't donate some blood tomorrow.

I managed to pool money from various friends and family and send a check for $8,500. Not bad for a poor college student, eh? In all seriousness, I really hope it does some good.

    hurricane relief...

I spoke last night to a friend of mine who is the Chieftain of the St. Andrew's Society of Baton Rouge about potential assistance. He said other Scottish societies have been in contact asking what they can do as well.

Our St. Andrew's Society's executive committee will be meeting this evening to discuss potential hurricane relief programs; we plan to have a donation "kitty" at our booth at the upcoming Southwest Missouri Celtic Festival & Highland Games, and our Kirkin' in November will also have a special offering for Hurricane relief as well through the Episcopal Church's Relief and Development fund.

Another Scottish group I belong to is planning to volunteer a few hours with the Red Cross and/or Convoy of Hope.

I just wish there was more I could do.

I am organising a charitable effort. I am trying to get everybody in the building where I live to come up with toiletries, money, asprin, bandages, food, basic supplies, tampons, cookies, small new toys, teddy bears, etc, all those little things that are so important. And uh, being the clever bastard that I am, to get everything started on the right foot, I slipped a ten spot to the most gossippy old woman in the high rise to start a rumour that so and so donated this, and so and so donated that, and what's her name donated this much.

It's set off quite a firestorm with the ladies. They all have this old biddy one upswomanship with each other and some of them are furious when they hear the rumours of somebody with a better donation. A lot of them are getting their families and such involved. "Hey, come and visit Gramma and Grampa, and, hey, BRING MONEY."

There are right now about 300 souls in this building, most of them locked in mortal combat trying to out do one another. Most of them simply refuse to be outdone. Some of the cash donations are already exceding a thousand dollars from single individuals.

Today, I am going to work on getting the blood mobile to come here. A lot of folk can't get around and can't get to blood donation centers, so I plan to bring he blood donation center here. I think they should be able to set up in the nurses' office in the health center here in the building.

I have been helping coordinate activities here in town as far as getting not only funds, but food to to head down to the area. Helped take medical people to the airport and other aid workers.

Donate more, not less. You will never, EVER regret it, or miss it.

I'd like to remind everyone who is puting together relief supplies to include toys and games for children. Nothing big or major, just simple things. To a child, these are just as importante as food, water and toiletries. I've been helping with relief work for several years and these are often forgotten.
